Do you guys honestly think McKelvin is the best corner in the draft?

Just watching highlights he dosen't look as impressive as Mike Jenkins or Brandon Flowers....

Thoughts?

Please do more research and stop watching the dumb youtube highlights!

McKelvin held Calvin Johnson to two catches for 9 yards two years ago.

He's not going to set the field on fire with INTs but he will get a lot of knockdowns and cover in man to man perfectly

Are you kidding me? Get off the boards. McKelvin was the best corner in this draft.

Who did you want? DRC with one kidney and no run support? Jenkins who isn't physical and has questionable toughness? Flowers who went #35 overall? Aqib Talib who had 10 reps on the bench and got busted for pot 3 times?

couldnt have said it better myself,

Brandon Flowers??......come on, he cant keep up with ne top flight nfl receivers, cool highlight films with pump up music doesnt necessarily correlate to good play on the field

Well he is fast,thats good.
He is on the short side (actually average for CBs),and doesn't have a rep for interceptions.
The one thing that bothers me is the fact that he is only a marginal tackleer.
This is what is seen as he has played college ball.
What will we see in the bigger faster, stronger NFL game.

Biggest key in the Cover-2 is a big corner who has the ability to hold the edge on the strong side of the formation...the LB are either upfield or in coverage...McKelvin gives you that lockdown ability to turn and run and is a great run support corner as well...at the very least he contributes as an explosive returner.

His downside is hands but not necessarily ball skills...he has great anticipation for routes and balls in the air.

I really don't know,as i don't follow too much college ball.
I got my info on this
http://www.sportsline.com/NFL/players/draft/519682
My concern is that if he is only a marginal tackler at the college level what can he do in the bigger, stronger, faster NFL game.

Yeah, he doesn't get many picks, but he's a good hitter, he's fast, and he's dangerous when he gets his hands on the ball.

I like the pick.

He probably didnt get many picks because he was not thrown at that much. Bottom line he was the top rated corner and we got him by standing pat at #11!

I think what impresses me most about him is his open-field tackling abilities. It's one of the most difficult things to do in football and he seems to do it extremely well. He may not get a ton of interceptions, but I think he's going to keep teams from getting a lot of long runs this season. I think "marginal" is drastically understating his toughness and aggressive nature one-on-one in the open field.

Yes, if you did the research, he was the best. I'm getting his jersey soon. Same with Hardy.

I liked McKelvin the best out of the CB's in this draft. So I am quite pleased. Couldn't believe he dropped to 11.

Is your information from actually watching him because like I stated I don't know.In the scouting report I posted it sounds like his tackleing abvility is only marginal.

I think he is the best corner in this draft, and more importantly, he was the most complete corner.

There are corners who have better ball skills than him, and there are corners who play the run better than him. There might even be corners who are faster than him. But he is the ONLY corner with the whole package.

With us playing cover 2, we have to have a corner who can play the run. That being said, with the receivers we face every year, we had to have someone who can really cover. McKelvin is the only corner who has the complete game.

I feel like in terms of the CB position guys like Cason and Jenkins were better.

However, McKelvin is the guy who will actually shut down a WR for an entire game, than take a kickoff to the house, which will get under Parrish's skin, and Roscoe will return a punt for a TD....lol

All kidding aside McKelvin offers you the best break on the ball and instincts that can not be taught. You can teach a player how to catch. McKelvin is more of a position and football instinct than a guy like Talib or DRC who need a lot of coaching.

McKelvin is the most lockdown corner in this draft.

If he had better ball skills, he's a top 6 pick.

Cornerback is such a valuable position in the NFL. McKelvin will be coached up. I don't think he will start right away, but I'd like to see him on nickle packages.

Leodis has been solid in coverage and is a very physical tackler that really helps out in run support. I have been frustrated with his lack of interceptions at times. However, I sometimes think that since he was often matched up with bigger, premier receivers that he was coached to just take the ball out of play, which I have seen at times from our other defensive backs. I think coaching and confidence will correct this.

Our other corner that played opposite of McKelvin actually led the nation in interceptions this year. He had tremendous ball hawking ability but lacked the physical make-up and tackling ability. But many of his interceptions could probably be credited to teams throwing away from Leodis. Either we played zone and he gave someone a five-yard cushion and dropped him on the spot, or there was an incompletion that he broke up. He didn't get burned.

Leodis' intrinsic value is definitely his return game. He was a threat to break one at any time. He probably had more called back over his career than he scored, but his scores are especially significant given the lack of depth and talent that he had blocking for him versus what other returners had. He has to be allowed to return punts... That was the most exciting part of the game for me over the years.

I hope you guys enjoy him. He definitely brought an electric atmosphere to Troy (even as a true freshman it was evident).

For a glimpse into his game, find tapes of Troy versus Rice in the New Orleans Bowl and watch the entire game versus Oklahoma State from 2007.

Thanks, TUTrojan, for the insight. I don't know a lot about this guy (I assumed he'd be gone by #11) but I do think he's a perfect fit here.

He can be used on special teams and will have a great blocking team there. So, those TDs he SHOULD'VE made at Troy he WILL make at Buffalo. Very excited to see him on the field!

mcelvin is definetly the best corner in the draft next to talib, although talib has character concerns which puts mcelvin on top, bills did a great thing drafting him, addressed major dback concerns and put him in a great position to succeed in the defense...cant wait to see what he does

If we can get this guy some ball skills he will be a shut down CB for years to come!
We made the right selection at CB everyone had him rated 1 and we also made the right selection at WR Hardy is a monster who will be in the endzone alot this year.

I'm not an Edwards fan. I'm a Bills fan. I'm sick of Losman's play. There is no possible way that Edwards only wins 10 games in 4 years.

I do hate quoting the "experts" but they do watch tape that most of us can't. Here's what some of the analysts thought of McElvin compared to other corners...

Pat Kirwan's rank: 1
Gil Brandt's rank: 1
Mike Mayock's rank: 1
NFLDraftCountdown.com's rank: 2

This guy's gonna be great.

Should have added that Leodis created quite a few interceptions for our linebackers by jumping short routes and tipping balls. He will add turnovers even if he isn't directly responsible. He also generates a lot of fumbles for a defensive back.
