Looking at the stats on this guy, he's got some serious ball skills

He had 7 interceptions last year, and has had a total of 15 in the 4 years he played.

Reggie Corner
Height: 5-93/8 | Weight: 180 | 40-Time: 4.49

Official Bio

Strengths:
A ballhawk in the secondary...Great instincts and awareness...Nice hands and ball skills...More quick than fast but he has a burst to close....Very smooth and flips his hips well...Displays good footwork...Competitive...Confident...Excellent production.

Weaknesses:
Doesn't have the ideal size that you look for...Timed speed is merely average....Is not real strong or physical...Struggles to match up with big wideouts...Intelligence has been questioned....Level of competition is a concern...Upside might be limited.

Notes:
Was a four-year starter for the Zips....Earned first team All-MAC honors....Doesn't have everything that you look for from a size / speed perspective but manages to get the job done and is just a good football player..Probably won't profile as much more than a nickel type at the next level....Could be a poor-man's Nathan Vasher.

I do not mind the pick at all. I mean we lost out on the top TEs... There was no one else worth taking there. This gives Buffalo some depth... Maybe move the guy to safety?

Relax... Buffalo has done just fine up to this point I trust them.

Kepp in mind last year we were picking CB off the streets to help us... Depth is never a bad thing folks.

I think this coaching staff has come to the conclusion we cannot have enough D players, especially what happened last year. Whatever they do now I am happy with we still have 6 picks...

I think it's safe to say none of us saw this pick coming. Other needs should have been addressed. I understand DJ was a DB but come on. Not impressed at all.

Corner has been a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks since moving into the starting lineup as a red-shirt freshman. Certainly not the biggest defensive back you will find, he compensates for a lack of height and bulk with outstanding leaping ability, great timing and natural hands to get to more than a fair share of balls in flight. He is the only player to lead outright or share the team lead for interception in each of the four seasons he suited up for the Zips.

His 15 interceptions tied for second on the school career record list. He joined All-American Dwight Smith (261 yards, 1997-2000) and Shawn Vincent (265 yards, 1988-90) as the only players in Akron annals to return interceptions for 225 or more yards in a career. He had at least one interception or pass deflection in 28 of the 48 games he played in for Akron.

At McKinley High School, Corner excelled as a wide receiver. He earned All-Ohio, All-District and All-County honors in each of his last two seasons. As a freshman, he was a member of McKinley's 1998 state championship team. As a senior, he played both sides of the ball, coming up with three interceptions and 43 catches for 739 yards and 12 scores. He added 45 catches for 749 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior. He also ran track, where he was a member of the state champion 4x400-meter relay team.

Corner enrolled at Akron in 2003, but sat out the year under NCAA Proposition 48 rules. He took over field cornerback duties in 2004, going on to start 46-of-48 games during his career. That year, he ranked seventh on the team with 55 tackles (41 solos), making three of those stops behind the line of scrimmage. He broke up six passes and intercepted two others.

In 2005, Corner again finished seventh on the team with 46 tackles (29 solos). He had two stops for losses, along with nine pass deflections and two pass thefts. As a junior, he started 10 games at field cornerback, coming off the bench vs. North Carolina State and Central Michigan. He totaled 44 tackles (30 solos) with a fumble recovery. He picked off four passes and was credited with eight pass break-ups.

Corner garnered All-Mid American first-team honors as a senior. He ranked fourth in the nation and shared the league lead with seven interceptions. He and fellow cornerback Davanzo Tate tied for sixth in the NCAA with 19 passes defended, as Corner broke up 12 tosses. He finished seventh on the team in tackles for the third time in his career, collecting 52 hits (40 solos) with three stops behind the line of scrimmage.

Corner started 46 of 48 games at Akron. He recorded 197 tackles (140 solos) with eight stops for losses of 24 yards and a fumble recovery. He deflected 35 passes and ranks tied for second in school history with 15 interceptions, ranking third all-time with 225 yards in returns (15.0 avg), including one touchdown.
Analysis

Positives: Compactly built athlete with good, lean muscle definition … Stays tight with receivers on deep routes and has good play development recognition skills … Has a good feel for the ball, maintaining eye contact on the receiver while tracking the ball in flight … Keeps a tight relationship with the receiver in the open and can cover ground with his closing burst … Shows good knee bend and a smooth, easy turning motion coming out of his backpedal … Takes good angles towards the ball and makes proper body adjustments turning and flexing for the pass, demonstrating natural hands and above average timing to high point the ball … Shows fluid hip turn and quick feet coming out of his backpedal … Makes proper zone adjustments and anticipates the quarterback's moves well, as he can handle the switch-off effortlessly … Has the hip snap and body control to position himself before delivering the hit … Has the burst to recover on deep routes … Gets a sharp break on the ball and is flexible in his hip turn and compensates for a lack of ideal height with good quickness and ball anticipation skills … Stays low in his pads and extends his arms to wrap and secure as a tackle (lacks strength behind his hits, though) … Shows natural hands, extending and plucking the ball away from the body's framework … Has the field vision to keep track of the ball in flight.

Negatives: Size is a big drawback, but he compensates with good aggression and the timing to go up and snatch the ball out of the receiver's hands … Lacks ideal power for run support, but even though he is willing to face up, he does not have the strong anchor to prevent ballcarriers from running through his arm tackles … Sometimes gets a little too aggressive, causing him to over-pursue, but shows the recovery quickness needed to get back into the play … Gets so pass theft conscious that he will play the ball a little too much, tending to lose sight of the receiver at times … Reaches back on his heels sometimes when turning in his backpedal … Has to show better shadow ability when handling the receiver, but flashes quickness to recover … Needs to become more physical with the receivers in press coverage.

Compares To: TIM JENNINGS-Indianapolis … Corner won't ever be confused for a Charles Woodson when it comes to taking on running backs, but he does provide great value in a sub package because of his natural hands and ability to get to the ball in flight. His best asset is his ball skills, as he times his leaps well to ride up on a receiver to deflect or pick the ball off. His size is a big drawback and will probably keep him out of the starting lineup, but few cornerbacks have the ability to reach and pluck the ball like he does.
Injury Report

No injury report available, but Corner did not miss a game due to injuries at Akron.
Agility Tests

Campus: 4.49 in the 40-yard dash … 1.56 10-yard dash … 2.58 20-yard dash … 4.03 20-yard shuttle … 6.87 three-cone drill … 36-inch vertical jump … 10'0" broad jump … Bench pressed 225 pounds 15 times.

Combine: Did not receive an invitation.
High School

Attended McKinley (Canton, Oh.) High School, where he excelled as a wide receiver … Earned All-Ohio, All-District and All-County honors in each of his last two seasons … As a freshman, he was a member of McKinley's 1998 state championship team … As a senior, he played both sides of the ball, coming up with three interceptions and 43 catches for 739 yards and 12 scores … Added 45 catches for 749 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior … He also ran track, where he was a member of the state champion 4x400-meter relay team.

Sounds like a nickle corner and ST player..

Everybody who thought we were going to crank up the offense might want to rethink what OBD is going to crank up.. Sounds like pressure on the opposing offense .. hold them down so we can Field Goal them to death..

would have rather had another reciever like Burton or Hubbard than a 5'9" cb to compete with all the other 5'9" cb's we have. I was hoping Steven would hang around and we could have picked him up at TE. Hell Bryant is still around at DT if we are loading up at certain positions why not DT ........... Stroud is not a rookie and he has had some injuries would be nice to have anohter monster in the rotation.

No offense to this guy, but this pick doesn't make any sense for the Bills. This guy will be lucky to find his way onto the field. McGee,McKelvin,Greer,James,Youbouty,Corner?

According to Russ Brandon, there were some positions that the Bills weren't targeting due to depth. That's why Dan Connor isn't a Buffalo Bill. This just seems like a wasted pick considering there is still signifigant needs on offense. They said they were going to surround Edwards with playmakers, and one Wr in the 2nd rd isn't going to cut it.

The Bills brass is going to catch some heat for this one. The prospect of an "A" draft grade for the Bills just went out the window.

Just because we have 5 corner on the team including Leodis does not mean we can't draft a another one. Our secondary was weakness why not make it a strength? The Jaguars are know for their D-line because they draft that postion consitently over the years. Also our speacial teams took a hit this off season so we need help on coverage units.

Well, let's see what they do with rest of the draft.. this pick tells me they have no depth of confidence in the CB's on the team.

If they keep going defense, you can be assured that our offense will be 3 yds and a cloud of dust and we will need 2 punters on the team to be able to handle the load.

he's 5'9" 184 and not that fast 4.45

I don't care about that value of the pick stuff. There were good running backs on the board but we didn't need running backs. You have to factor in need a little. Another corner? We aren't doing anything else on offense. That is a big mistake. Is Tejo Johnson that good? He hasn't been yet. We still need a TE. A Center. A fullback. This is crazy. I was happy with all the day one picks but it's time to make smart decisions. Not sure this no name guys a good one.

kellyTOreed99

i do and don't understand the pick. I feel like a guy like quintin demps.....who went a few picks after ours....would have been a solid pick as a person to compete and push KO. There were other cb's on the board like Jack Williams and Orlando Scandrick who had higher grades and similar skill sets as Corner....so i guess they must have been really high on this guy. But i feel like he could have been picked in the 6th round.

If you're the NE Patriots, you can draft for depth like this pick seems to be. But the Bills don't have that luxury as we have other needs that still have not been addressed.

Loved day 1. Day 2 I had such high expectations for and now I'm getting a little annoyed. Much like the Matrix sequels.

What they're saying about Corner
"First off he plays a lot bigger than his size. He's very, very good in his run support. Good instincts, good coverage ability, very good ball skills. Really there aren't many negatives. They played Ohio State, Indiana and he covered Hardy and that was a split. They both did well (Hardy had just 4 catches for 65 yards and a TD). He rose above the competition in those games. You turn on the film and he's an exciting player. He's a 4.5 guy that plays like a 4.4 guy."

the thing that gets me is why are sooooo many people naturally assuming that youboty should be worried when in reality it is mcgee that should be worried. who in the right mind sees mcgee getting a raise when the last contract he signed he was over paid for.

seeing how this league works, either mcgee leaves because he doesnt get the raise based upon his last contract or he signs for the same money. but seeing how much money big name ( not skilled ) corners are getting paid .... i can see some team offering mcgee more money than the bills want to pay him.

then the bills are where ?

I think youbouty is staying with the team. Yes he was injured, but he did play well when asked. He has also been solid on SPT.
