Running Back | Senior | NW Missouri St.
Xavier Omon
Height: 5-103/4 | Weight: 228 | 40-Time: 4.59

Official Bio

Strengths:
Has excellent size and bulk...Strong and powerful...Tough inside runner...Does not go down easily and will pick up yards after contact...Nice vision and instincts...Has pretty good hands...Physical and punishes defenders...Offers some versatility...Is a very good blocker...Proven workhorse with a lot of experience...Real productive.

Weaknesses:
Does not have great timed speed...Not very quick or explosive...Isn't very elusive and doesn't have much wiggle...Not a big play threat...Won't get outside and turn the corner at the next level...Ball security is an issue...Really has a ton of mileage on his tires and durability may be a concern...Did not play against top competition.

Notes:
Could also potentially project to fullback in the NFL...Division II's leading rusher in 2007 and led his team to the National Championship game...North / South runner who is a jack-of-all-trades but master of none..Not starting material but can make a roster and contribute in a number of different ways...Was dominant as his level and has emerged as one of the best small school prospects in the 2008 NFL Draft.

Analysis

Positives: Strong, durable runner (1,000+ carries from 2005-07) with more than adequate size. ... Keeps his feet moving in traffic, maintains low pad level to break through arm tackles. ... One-cut back who can plant and drive up the field. ... Once he's in the seam, he has a slight burst into the open. ... Strong running between the tackles and can also stiff-arm a defender to take the ball outside. ... Can spin off a defender and maintain balance to get additional yardage.

Negatives: Does not possess breakaway speed, but is more than a move-the-chains runner. ... Has been a somewhat productive receiver (90 receptions in four years) and can bring in the ball smoothly, but he fights the ball at times, creating hesitation that will give NFL defenders the advantage in space. ... Willing to block but needs to improve pass protection skills, keeping his feet and getting into the defender's pads. ... Ball security is an issue as well.

I was thinking when we drafted him...it looks like we might try him at FB...not a bad pick imo.

Those are insane stats, but we don't really need him unless we're cutting another RB.

If this isn't meant as a FB, then this is yet another stupid, crappy (God I've said that word many times today) and useless pick. Bank it - this offense is going to suck yet another year, if we don't start drafting another talented WR.

This guy is AMAZING... Talk to me about level of comp with guys like Rice and TO...

FOLKS OUR CURRENT BACKUP JACKSON PLAYED WHERE? COE COLLEGE?

Stop with the small school talk, the production is second to none here. Love this pick! Surprised the guy lasted this long!

If Bowman or Monk fall to them I think they pull the trigger. Same with Justice.

potential to go down as one of the best FB ever. :chrisbrown: Nice pick, but I would have like Bowmen WR?

I watched the utube vid, thanks bufbills79, and contrary to my initial impression upon hearing who we had drafted, hey, this kid can play for my team anytime!!

He's a real good player. A lot of people had him rated as one of their sleepers and I'm very confident in our RB corps.

We have 4 really good RB's who are physical and downhill guys.

I'd like to see us address our O-line depth in the 7th.

Omon won't be a fullback... at least not right away. He rarely even stayed in the backfield and blocked for the QB in college... He either ran or caught the ball out of the back field (has great hands).

The good news is that he could very well be the Bills #2 back. You'll be pleased with him.

He'll probably be our 3rd RB, considering how productive he's been. I wouldn't be surprised to see Lynch, Jackson and Omon all get carries. Maybe as a pass-catching RB?

GOOD LORD! 2,337 yards and scoring 38 touchdowns. That's amazing...I don't even care if he is from D2 or even D3, you can't over look stats like that. That's unbelievable. I bet he will be the back up to Lynch. I can't wait for mini camp!
