marshawn in the same league would have ran for 10,000 yds 74 tds in 14 games

Have you people heard anything about this part of the game called Special Teams? We lost alot of guys in the offseason. Also, he coiuld be used as a FB. We shall see.

I love the fact that we drafted 2 positions that are not in need and let what could have made the meanest duo in the league just slip away. Yes Owen and Marshawn. That would have been like Dirty Harry (Marshawn) and his Magnum .44 (Owen).
What a smart draft team

why did we take a hb to be a fb when players like caulcrick are still out there??? why dont we just draft tes to be wrs and c's to be Ots.

Horrible Day 2 for BUFFALo, what the Hell are they THINKING??? They didn't make a move for another WR when the cream of the crop was still out there, and the Bills didn't jump up for a TE either. 2 reaches for Corner CB and Omon a D-2 Runningback, is Mularkey up in the front office again??
Draft Grade
Day 1 - A
Day 2 - D+ (Ellis keeps it from being an F)
We got another Useless T.E to go along with the 4 we already have, and another RB...bad draft day 2 for Buffalo

We got a solid starter, and a stable backup, and both are capable of 3rd down running. Omon is going to be challenging Jackson for the number 2. Never a bad thing to have competition for a position. good pick

Here is a classic reason why the colts make the playoffs every year and we dont. Mike Hart was sitting there, if we wanted a rb- and we pick this dude. Just dumb--Very dumb. I didnt mind the 1st day picks- but day 2 Im just scratching my head...None of these picks make sense to me... I think we miss Marv in the War room....Not happy!

I'm a Northwest Missouri fan and can tell you Omon isn't your fullback... at least not at this time. He very rarely blocked in the backfield in pass protection, let alone doing run blocking. He has great vision, hits the hole and has great hands... He'll be your 2nd or 3rd string rb.

if he's not our full back then he will compete with Jackson for the second spot.
Omon looks like he could take it from Jackson.

you gotta be steamed that they took a late HB and it wasn't hart. Peyton Manning spreads out defenses, it could work for him out there.

i actually was glad buffalo used a late round pick on a quality runningback. If freddy jackson or lynch got hurt we need another serviceble back.
I hope he can make the team from training camp, I will be watching him closely in our preseason games.

You honestly think Hart was better? Hart is a 5'8, 4.7 back. Not exactly mind blowing numbers there.

Yeah I am with you. I was ok with the Chris Ellis pick. Tearing his labrium twice is kind of an injury risk though. But then we really started to get wild. If you wanted to go corner, why not go Jack Williams from Kent State, 4.3 40 and much better athletiscm?
Then you get a tight end with minimal athletic ability. The 6th round pick was mind boggling. Instead of getting a good backup center (Sullivan went here) or a good DT (could of had Ahtayba Rubin) we get an undersized LB. What is it with the Bills and tweener players? 7th Round was head scratching. Bell? When a 4 year player from Ohio State (Kirk Barton was sitting there) then Johnson was an ok pick (Monk also went in the 7th) and then another corner even though Robertson from Georgia Tech was available.

Look at his game tape, look at the numbers that matter- stats! He made a career of Big time performances against big time talent. Yeah our draft pick he good stats but it was not at the same level (talent wise) this draft pick was a waste...Total waste...If you want to pick him- he should have been our last pick

X-Mon huge sleeper?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Xavier Omon -
Height: 5-foot-11
Weight: 226 pounds
Class Year: Sr
Experience: 4V
Hometown: Lawrence, KS
Omon combines quickness and power with adequate speed. He is quick between the tackles, and has the cutting skills to get to the second level. He has a strong lower body that allows him to break tackles and consistently move the pile.

This guy really does remind me of Priest Holmes. Excellent back up for the Bills. He does not have that burst of speed but Holmes really didn't either. Its all about vision and power and he has it. Kudos to the scouts in finding him. He will definitely get that offense going. I am really excited about this guy.
To be honest..I don't care if he is in division 2, I'm sure he'll work even harder to show off his skills. Some the greatest players are from small schools.
Welcome X-Mon to Buffalo!

Looks good on film, but he won't be facing divII defences anymore....mabe he'll step up an learn from our other backs...including Freddy....one thing for sure....we're going to have a very special "Special Team" group on the field this year!!!!

I think people forget something when they bring up the "level of play" arguement. Yes, he played against DII defenses. And he was part of a friggin DII offense. I mean c'mon. It's not like his whole offensive line was D1 caliber and they just destroyed the other teams. No matter how you slice it, 1500+ (and over 2000 his senior year) EVERY year is amazing talent. And he is a better back than Hart. Shoot, his 3-cone drill time of 6.71 is like the 5th fastest of any RB drafted since the 2000 draft. And one scout had him down even faster, at 6.64 for the 3 cone. Now I'm rambling...
You take a back like Lynch or any other first round back, and yes they may very well have put up similiar numbers. But it's absurd to think that Lynch (for example) would have 10,000 yards in 4 years at the DII level in a strong conference like NWMO was in.
This kid will surprise people. Now whether or not it's here in Buffalo where he gets to do it, that's something else.

On day 2 the Bills went with who they had as the best value that fit what they want to do. You need to forget about the names that were on the board at the time, every team has a different draft board. Just because we heard of a player in mock drafts doesn't mean the Bills should jump on him. Nobody knows much about the players drafted thats why this is such a big deal. If you look at what Omon did, and I don't care if it was in Div. 2, the guy had great production. It was a solid pick, Bills fans will love him. Also at the TE spot Fine fits the Bills, everyone wanted the name guys that were being mentioned in all mocks, but he could turn out to be a very solid TE. I give there day 2 grade a solid B, they addressed needs and maybe came away with the steal of the draft in the 7th round WR Steve Johnson.

If you think about it the Giants had Brandon Marshall and Derrick Ward as their RB tandem coming into last year.....both of them got knicked up at times but the Giants running game did not suffer because of Bradshaw.
This is what the Bills were thinking when drafting Omon. A late-round RB that definately has talent but is unproven. Look for some good things from him during the preseason, and then if Marshawn or Freddie get knicked up he could fill a MAJOR role.
newbillsfan07

Lets start this by reminding everyone that during the combine Xavier was coming off of a swolen knee received during the Texas vs. America game. So his number during the combine for at least the 40 were a little high. Also, he won't be a fullback, period. He will come in and compete for the number two spot right away. For those of you content on having Marshawn as ur starter, must I state the obvious? He's a solid back, but not a star, so any depth at RB should be welcome. Lastly, Xavier can, and most likely will, be a nice addition to special teams.
KoolAidMan
04-30-2008, 01:43 PM
He's a low buget Marshawn! same style, not quite as fast, similar power and not as much wiggle.
But you cant argue with those numbers.... and you cant judge heart.
newbillsfan07
04-30-2008, 06:15 PM
He probably didn't expect to be drafted. Period.
The only surprise for him was that he was drafted by the Bills. From what I've heard, they were the only team that did not show interest in him during the combine.
