Looks like a special teams move to me.
Mayock and Kiper say he is a finess tackler.

I've definitely heard the questions about his tackling ability, but he's athletic and at the very least should be a big time special teamer.

what i like about this pick is we have inside info on him..
What Bowen said
"I'm very grateful and thankful right now. I just can't wait to help out and do whatever my part is. I just spoke to coach Cross, who was here with me at Iowa State before he left to coach with the Bills and I thanked him for everything because while he was at Iowa State he pushed me the hardest and let me know that he wasn't going to take any slack from me. So I already know what to expect from him."
Now this could be a great pick...but either way...nobody would know this kid more than cross

Despite lacking the bulk you expect from a linebacker, Bowen has developed into a tackling machine. He led the nation in solo tackles (95) and tackles per game (12.92) as a junior and was the team leader in both categories in his two years starting for the Cyclones.
Because of his pass coverage ability and range, Bowen is also being eyed as a possible strong safety prospect by professional teams. Opposing coaches in the Big 12 Conference praised his loose hips and ability to get good depth in his pass drops, as they labeled him the pass coverage linebacker in the league.

Maybe he will let us move Whitner to FS?

What I do not understand is his combine time for the 40. Walterfootball.com shows him at 4.83, which would be slow for a 270 pound player, but it is terrible for a little 220 pounder. He was the 27th ranked OLB in the attached link.

Yes he is extremely slow and undersized, but hey, got to give him credit for producing.

This kid is good. Play hard all the time. Has a good nose for the ball. Should work his way into playing time in a short time.
