Overall: Johnson attended Chabot College (a California community college) out of high school, amassing 105 receptions for 1,667 yards (15.9 average) and 18 touchdowns in two seasons (2004-'05). He transferred to Kentucky in 2006, appearing in 13 games (no starts) as a junior and grabbing 12 receptions for 159 yards (13.3 average) and a touchdown. In 13 games (and just four starts) in 2007, Johnson exploded for 60 catches, 1,041 yards (17.4 average) and 13 touchdowns. Johnson is a developmental prospect who needs to work on his route running and get a little stronger before pushing for significant playing time. However, there's a lot to like about his top-end speed, initial quickness and competitiveness so he projects as a fifth round pick.

So to all the haters, the Bills are getting some good talent late in the draft. Of course, he may not turnout, but for all of you who are going off of what you've heard from media sources and judging the Bills, here's this saying we've done well :)

Plus I think this guy is much better than even ESPN gives him credit for.

I hope the Bills keep him on the practice squad. He definitely has the potential to replace some of our other WRs on this team.

When you look at stats alone, Johnson's stats are very comparable and, in some cases (TD's and YPC) much better than Devin Thomas.

And he did that in a tougher conference than Thomas did.

Johnson makes the team as the #5 WR and plays special teams, possibly even challenges Reed for #4.

Definite sleeper and project, but it looks like he has a crapload of upside. Great pick for a 7th rounder.

Agreed. I think Devin Thomas is overrated. He could end up being alright, but he got way too much hype just based off of his own hype!

Lol and by that I mean the more ppl that just "heard" about him talked him up so much and then his legend grew based off of previous hype.

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be shocked to see Johnson be the #2 WR. I'm not kidding.

BILLS FANS: THE STEAL OF THIS DRAFT IS STEVE JOHNSON. YOU SHOULD BE ABSOLUTELY PSYCHED TO SEE THIS OFFENSE. TRUST ME. I LOVE THIS FOOTBALL PLAYER.

I won't knock Thomas but will say this, For a guy who could have gone as early as a 4th-5th Rds Not Bad at all for a steal at a 7th RD (Adarius Bowman is still out their, but I like this pick Big Time)!!!!:sherlock:

Just judging by what I've read in the past half hour I'm thinking that since we only have 4 really top receivers, he COULD be number 5, huh?

Honestly, you just never know.

He certainly was productive last year and has the size and speed that this offense is lacking.

I'm not predicting any sort of stardom for Johnson, but his receiving stats are very similar to Devin Thomas'....and I didn't want the Bills to draft Thomas because I felt to insecure about taking a guy so high with only one great year of stats.

But in the 7th? Heck yeah, I'll take a guy like Johnson or Thomas there....and even higher with a mid round pick.

Both could be great or both could stink the joint up but the potential is certainly there.

I don't know how anyone couldn't be thrilled to get a guy like this...especially where we got him.

Picks like this is where the term "value pick" was invented.

i think he could see some time like how the g-men rotated a lot of wr in, hes hte second tallest on the team for wr that have the potential to see the field let him play!

Hey, and look what the Saints got out of Colston! This definitely has the potential to be that kind of pick.

Two WRs with outstanding ball skills in Johnson and Hardy.

Trent Edwards and Lee Evans are two very very happy people.

Should this get a sticky just for that reason alone? Haha jk.

But definitely adding height to this team will make getting TD's in the redzone a lot more likely than before.

DING, DING, DING, DING, DING....we have a winner. Guys, don't worry about Stevie. He will make the roster and will likely replace Reed/Roscoe at #3 by his second year. He really is THAT good...trust me.

LOL Okay

You add a 6'5 WR in the 2nd round. Then OBD adds a 6'1 1/2 WR in the 7th round who is 205-210 pounds of muscle in great shape btw.

Lacking size?

If you think he lacks speed, then you are just watching the combine.

I really dont' care much about the combine when it comes to players like Johnson, because I know how to evaluate speed in games. Football is played in pads, and in pads Steve Johnson was one heck of a WR for Kentucky last season.

you misunderstood him. he said our offense was lacking size and speed, not johnson.

(we obviously weren't lacking speed though, but size, definately.)
