OBD please read!!!
Put Hardy right under the goal post on opponents' long field goal attempts and have him leap up and try to reject the ball just before it goes over the crossbar. He should be able to reach a foot or two above the crossbar, it could be enough to block a 50+ yard attempt. It's like catching a homerun ball just over the wall.
How awesome would it be if he pulled off the league's first "crossbar block"?

I believe it's against the rules.

i'm fairly certain it's not. How do you define the difference between catching a field goal kick and blocking a field goal kick from going through the uprights? You're allowed to catch the ball so... that means you're allowed to touch it.
That'd be a tough judgement call for refs to make, if they have to determine whether or not the ball would have gone through...

It is... but would be sweet.

It's just a kick from scrimmage, so the rules are the same as for a punt.. so you can touch it from anywhere. Can you find me a link where it's stated in the rules that it's illegal?
I can't find anything.

This site isn't completely official, but:
13. Defensive team may advance all kicks from scrimmage (including unsuccessful field goal) whether or not ball crosses defensive team’s goal line. Rules pertaining to kicks from scrimmage apply until defensive team gains possession.

edit: Almost every site i can find lists the same set of rules.
