With all the hype surrounding this draft, along with the depth of competition brought in by 2 other late round CBs, will Youboty step up and be the player the Bills had hoped for when they drafted him?
It looks now like everyone's all over McGee and Greer being tops of the depth chart and posters are talking up new draftee McKelvin and FA James all in competition with Greer to see who starts and who's nickle. BUT, what if Youboty steps it up, or is it everyone's opinion that he's out of favor at OBD? I know that when he came out of OSU a year early, many felt he was a great choice as a third rounder since he probably would have been a first rounder if he stayed in school... so forum members were saying it was genius that we used a 3rd round pick to get what would have been a 1st rounder the next year (the logic is still boggling).
All that said, he seemed to get some playing time last year, and I think that by the middle of this coming year the Bills will have McGee, McKelvin and Youboty (to cover speed, size and slot, in that order), with depth from Greer and James.

I rather have Mcgee#1, Mckelvin#2 (maybe taking#1), Greer and James playing the Nickle and Youboty,Corner and Cox for depth.

Its going to be very interesting to see how the CB situation plays out this year. Its gonna be a great camp battle. I would have to say the only one that is safe is McGee.

Lol, no way in hell Youboty is the nickelback by midseason, there's a better chance he gets cut from the team before that happens.

youboty probably holds off cox as the #5 corner. that's how i see it.

Does that mean you see James and/or Greer out?
From what I have seen Youboty doesn't exactly have the makeup of a competitor and has too fragile of an ego.
His junior year, he struggled and got benched. His rookie year, his mother died, and I'm not trying to be insensitive, but he missed a couple weeks of training camp, and didn't play at all the entire season. Last season, he couldn't beat out Greer or Webster, and maybe even Kiwakee Thomas.
To me, its McKelvin, McGee, Greer, James, and Corner. Cox maybe ends up on the PS.
Now that I think about, I guess where I can see James being gone. He was a late offseason addition and was probably more of a signing in case they didn't get the CB they wanted in the draft. With McKelvin and Corner, I can see where James becomes expendable.

sorry, typo. meant #6. i think we can keep 6 depending on how well those 5 and 6 guys play special teams.

This is the one issue that I'm not extremely excited about pertaining to this draft. I'm ok with the selections because of the value. But drafting 3 corners and signing James when I don't think that the corners were necessarily our biggest problem on D.
I thought that with 1 corner, maybe another late and some help in pass rushing that we would experience success in the secondary. Think about it.
Youboty is STILL an unknown, this would seem to me to be his year to show.
Greer performed admirably (especially against Moss).
McGee continues to improve, getting him off of returns will help immensly.
We just signed James, who according to Philly fans, is still decent!
Admittedly, after that we are screwed, so drafting McKelvin I'm ok with... drafting one in round 6-7 also was ok. But the pick of the corner, CORNER is a mindblowing pick IMO.
However, as I said, I'm not mad or sad about it, just puzzled and if nothing else, we know have a wide open competition to put the best defensive secondary available out there on the field.

I think that Yobouty may be done here. They drafted 3 corners. Says something about how they feel bout the depth of the position.

i think youboty is more of a known quantity than you think he is. he's still just too inconsistent.

He'll beat out James, Cox and Corner pretty easily.
He'll have to fight for reps with Greer and McKelvin in front of him. But don't be surprised if he makes that next step.

Well, I guess at least one AP reporter had the same question I did, here's an excerpt of their opinion regarding Youboty:
taken from http://www.auburnpub.com/articles/2008/04/29/sports/sports02.txt
"[The 3 cornerbacks taken are] ... an indication that the Bills aren't convinced Ashton Youboty will develop into an NFL-caliber player.
Buffalo's third-round pick in 2006 out of Ohio State, Youboty was held out of all but three games in his rookie season, and showed few signs of progress last year. After starting two of Buffalo's first three games last season, Youboty missed the next five games with an ankle injury, and was unable to reclaim the starting job from Jabari Greer.
With McKelvin expected to immediately challenge Greer for the starting job opposite Terrence McGee, Youboty will have to compete with Corner and veteran free-agent addition William James for what's likely to be the team's final two spots."
