View Full Version : Which UDFA's make the team?

Since Buffalo always seems to pride itself on having one or two UDFA's make the squad, which ones do you think make it this year out of the ones who have signed already?
My guesses are Viti and Felton (the FB and OG). Felton sounds like he could use a bit of coaching, but he doesn't seem like a big developmental project.
I also think Drone, Jason Jones, and one or two of the LB's go to the practice squad.

I am a homer but I have to go with the home town boy Luke Drone. I am a new Bills fan so I am trying to learn the team so I can not make any other predictions without other research.

I noticed you're a big fan of his from your other posts. Honestly, I was thinking he might make the team as the 3rd QB. We'll have to see how quickly he adjusts to the NFL according to the coaches. I just think that the FB is pretty obvious and the OG would provide needed depth on our line.
So do you root for any other NFL teams or are you a big Illinois State fan that follows the players when they go into the NFL?

I have been and still am a huge Cowboys fan. Have been all my life. Don't hold that against me fellas.
We grew up in the same town. (Mt. Carmel, IL) Our families have known each other for ever and my best friend is married to his sister. That happens when you live in a town of 8,000 people.
I am a big fan of his because I have seen his work ethic. He has worked for every achievement. The Bills are very lucky to have such a good person and a great athlete. He is a Christian man and has donated alot of his time to charity, ect. Bills fans will like this kid, I promise.

Well, we'll try not to hold the Cowboy thing against you, but it might be tough haha. Sounds like you're very close to Luke. And I understand; I actually grew up in a town of about 5000 and went to school in a town 45 minutes away that was a lot smaller.
Honestly, he sounds exactly like the kind of player the Bills like - hard worker. As a fellow Christian, I like the sounds of him already, and I really hope he becomes something good in this league, even if it's to backup Trent Edwards (though I'm sure he's hoping to start somewhere). It's a tough league, but I certainly hope the best for him.

I am not real close to Luke. I have known him my whole life but we weren't close friends. I am good friends with his sister who married my best friend. I am just happy for him because I know he deserves it!!!!
Yes, it is a very tough league. This isn't college!

I think that 3 of the guys we signed are gonna make the team including Luke Drone. Gibran Hamdan is currently our 3rd QB and he was there bc of an emergency. Luke will have a great opportunity to make the Roster. I think Teraz McCray will also make this team. He is a good DT who can really play. The last one who i not only believe will make the team but possibly start and that is Mike Vitti. The dude is a beast of a blocker and will give our no name FB's some pressure to be the starter.

I think Viti imakes the team and winds up starting at some point in the season. Felton seems like a good bet as well because we need some depth badly on the interior of our offensive line.
If Drone has a strong camp and looks like he can play in this league, I think he's probably going to beat out Hamdan. I know Hamdan has been around here for a year but with Schonert changing some of the playbook, Hamdan wont have much of advantage in that regard. If they look comparable in camp and pre-season, OBD probably would prefer a 23 year old rookie as the #3 QB and possibly the backup down the line when Losman leaves, than have a 27 year old hold that job.

Yeah I think Drone and Jones are locks to make it to the Practice Squad as is Kenard Cox and Demetrius Bell are other two 7th Rders.
McRay, Viti, Felton probably have the best shot at making the team. Don't rule out Brockington too if he can make a big enough impact on ST's.

How come Mike Viti is the only one so far on our roster and the only one I get a text message for ???????? Also we have a lot of talent and people on this team look down the roster and and try to pull people off to make room for these guys and its and it's a lot harder than you think. We can only carry 53 and now with out NFL Europe I think we can carry 8 or 9 on the PS. There are over 70 people listed on the roster right now and thats only including Viti out of the UDFAs.

I agree Billvern. Some of those 70 are from the PS last year, though. But as Chris Brown said before, Buffalo actually wants to give these guys a chance and have at least 2 or 3 UDFA's make the squad. Unfortunately I think those chances will go down since we're actually building a very talented team. But this year there's still that chance, we'll see.

Yeah i agree I feel that either Bell or Felton will be on the PS with the other on the 53. The same with Barnes and Viti, which makes Evans the odd man out

Unless Losman is traded, and it doesn't look like that is going to be happening, I expect Luke Drone to be on the PS this year. If he makes the team, it will be in 2009.

thats a good observation Tiger....i fully expect that to happen. When JP leaves next offseason. We'll sign a backup maybe even as early as this offseason after camp cuts. And then have Drone eventually become the 3rd string even possibly 2nd string a few years down the road.
And vern....I don't think Barnes can be on the PS because he's been in the league for 3 years. But don't quote me on that.

Felton... i don't think anyone else has a GOOD chance to make the team.
Practice Squad sure (Drone, McCray), but the team... i just don't see these guys beating out drafted players. Even Viti has long odds to beat out the bigger, more experienced Barnes. Jones, i doubt it with the WR depth of Johnson and Jenkins behind the big 4.

I like Felton's chances because of our lack of quality OL depth, something he seems able to provide. And while he's far from "plug-and-play" at this point, with a little grooming I could see him at RT, moving Butler to C to replace Fowler.

Sorry I quoted you, but your right I forgot the rules, he has been in the NFL for more than 2 years so he can't be on the PS.

I loved Robert Felton before the draft... I was hoping he would be a bill, picked in the 5th round or so... I think he is the best Run Blocking Guard in the draft (Albert being a Tackle) And I think he will make the team and possibly make a push to start at RG, and be a beast.. The last UDFA olinemen we signed from arkansas, went by the name of Jason Peters, and he turned out pretttty good

I've got to read up on Viti. I've never heard quite so much about a UDFA rookie. Why is everybody so high on him? Do people just love FBs in general?

So far I think Viti is that only one that is basically guaranteed to make the team.
