Both are significant reaches, but Ralph doesn't care. He has guys like you that buy the media hype and will flock to pay him more money because you want a QB no matter what.

If they take Gabbert or Newton its 100% definitely not a reach. Most Reputable draft analysts have both ranked in the top 10, many in the top 5. If you need a QB and you pick someone ranked in the top 10 with #3 pick, its not a reach. Original question is poorly worded.
2011 - Smart posters warned everyone else, Fitzpatrick was a waste of a year. Now we all know.
2012 - Smart posters warned everyone else another season of Gailey was a waste of a year. Now we all know
2013 - Smart posters are warning everyone else another year of brandon/nix is a waste of a year. Next year we will all know.

I agree QB is the most important position in football. There is no such thing as a reach. And especially not a few spots where mocks change daily.

Run the ball and stop the run went out with all the rule changes in the past 15 years. It's possible to build a winner around an incredible defense and a good running game, but it's really difficult.

Who has done it in the past 15 years? Ravens with an incredible defense, Tampa Bay with an incredible defense. Starting with the Cowboys, just about all the Super Bowls have been won with Hall of Fame QBs - Aikman, Elway, Young, Favre, Warner, Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, Manning, Rodgers. They had good defenses and some of them had good running games, but they all have great QBs.
The Ball Burglar is gone but not forgotten.

Buffalo will take a guy that can't start, play special teams for two seasons, then fade out of the league.
