Yesterday I a noticed routine from the bills that's becoming a little bit to familiar. The bills always seem to show flashes of being good and then before you know it reality sets in. I'm not saying that's definitely the case with this year's team but it do appear as if they still have that jinx going on with them.
The one thing that I'm starting to notice about this offense is they appear great against not so stellar defenses. Then when it's time to show up against contending defenses they seem to back down from the challenge. Yesterday on the offensive side it was like they had no clue of what to do to challenge the Jets. To me it was like they surrendered and couldn't wait to get the game over with. I seen looks on their faces that said we're just not good enough to compete with them but we will just do whatever to make the game a little interesting.
Donald Jones, to me isn't a #2. He did have a couple of chances to make plays and he's still having a hard time making catches. Right now he hasn't proven himself enough for me to get over the amount of balls he drops. David Nelson, Freddy Jackson, and Stevie Johnson were the only ones that appeared to want to challenge the Jets yesterday but they just couldn't get their teammates to follow their lead.
I'm still high on the bills because I'm a fan but I'm also starting to feel disappointment settling in. From what I see the bills just can't compete against the top defenses in the league. We have only two quality wins over the Eagles and Pats. The Pats defense been having problems all year. The thing is you just have to try to score just as much as their offense score.
The Eagles were without a few of their players on defense. Other then that the bills just isn't playing consistantly enough on offense. It's getting to a point where the only way you can expect the offense to perform at a high level is playing against a struggling defense. That's not gonna win you many games.
I hope the bills can turn things around starting next week. I believe that Chan Gailey can come up with something to get this offense going against the better defenses in the league. The question is can they execute? I'm ready to see a good team and a good team that can compete with the other great teams in the league. I don't want to keep being satisfied with beating teams we really should beat anyway. I want to see a good performance against the Steeleers, Ravens, Bengals, Jets, Pats, and other elite teams in the nfl. Cheering and getting amped about a win over the Dolphins, Browns, Rams, or any other sorry team out there is getting old to me.
