Default Players today that are NFL throwbacks.....

I was thinking about this the other day. As we all know the NFL is completely Hollywood now. With all these restrictions on padded practices fines on hits, I don't think a majority of the NFL is "tough" anymore. Don't get me wrong, football is a tough sport and players are tough. But not like they used to be. However, some do remain. Name me some "throwback" guys. Guys that eat nails for breakfast and would play through broken bones and absolutely leave everything on the field.

Two guys playing the game right now that jump out to me is Brian Urlacher and Ray Lewis. The guy looks like he belongs in the seventies with players like Butkus and Lambert.

JMO there's too much money in the pro game these days for the players to go all out. Many times once a players gets his cash he's not as motivated. There's been rumors of that exact thing with the Titans Chris Johnson.

Chan Gailey 12/26/2010 - Pass rush would of helped a couple of those. That guy (Tom Brady) stood back there forever and someone finally come open.

Troy Polamalu. That guy has no regard for his, or anyone else's body.

This is exactly who I was thinking of. I always think he's from a different era whenever I see him. I honestly have to throw our own Freddy Jackson in there too. The guys of the older era played for peanuts because they loved the game, Freddy went through 2 Indoor leagues and NFL Europe and is one of the toughest SOB's in the NFL. Did you see that block he laid this past week?

Roethlisberger is the only Quarterback I'd throw in there, that guy is tough as nails.

Patrick Willis, Brian Urlacher, Anquan Boldin, and Andre Johnson are up there too.
When Dick drafted Wood with Levitre in an effort to add some much needed bulk up front, there was really no reason to add Wang later. Wood went down early on, but the Bills still had Levitre and later on Wood was serviceable (but came into the lineup prematurely). It was only fitting that after Wood fully recovered and really exploded on the scene, that the Bills would release Dick and eventually cut Wang.

Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, James Harrison, Larry Fitzgerald, Wes Welker, these players all scream "throwback" to me.

From the current Bills I would add Kyle Williams, Eric Wood, and Andy Levitre

They have been shifted all over, yet still play at a high level because they're just plain tough football players.

Fred Jackson is ageless and his play is timeless. He could've played in the Jim Brown days and fit in right at the top. The man is a phenom, what he's done is nothing short of amazing. His running style is graceful yet bruttish, and I swear he just won't give up. Throwback attitude and abilities.

Would have to second Jackson and Wood from the Bills. Big Ben Stillers, Ray Lewis, Urlacher, Harrison, and Polamalu.
