Default PFF - 2011 Elusive rating - Fred Jackson

    http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog...lusive-rating/

Here is a study done by ProFootballFocus that measures a RB's ability to -

Break Tackles/Gain YAC and the all around elusiveness of a RB when the ball is in their hands, either on a rush or a reception.

Fact: Fred Jackson outplayed his contract (duh)

After breaking a bone in his leg, and the fact that he is 31 years old, with the emergence of Spiller in Freds absence, does Fred still deserve a contract extension more than 1-2 years?

No one doubts he will get offered an extension.

What I doubt is that it will be an extension that he is happy with.

There are a lot of miles on though legs.

I just hope Nix doesn't give him a deal that keeps CJ from being a stud and leaving in f/a because when that day comes Fred is also gonna be on his way out at the age of 33-34 years old and will have no Spiller and no running back.

Fred Jackson has always been tops in PFF's RB rankings. He was graded high last year for elusiveness too. That's the difference between him and Spiller, the missed tackles and yards after first contact. Spiller will get better, but he's not there yet. Until he is, Fred is our guy.

I agree, with Jackson being 32 I just can't see Nix giving him a huge contract extension. He has maybe 1 year left and Spiller is going to be pushing him hard for that #1 spot. I would like to say that I love Jackson as a player and if he was 3 years younger I would be fine with him getting top 5 money.

yes because if we ever make it to the big game Fred will probably be the most steady player on the team because football is a game for him and he's not some diva living off football fame. He's a good family man with a steady hand. I don't recall the last time Fred has made as *** of himself on or off the field. I don't recall him ever making a mistake that killed us and if he did he usually comes back stronger. I want Fred in the game on 3rd and long in the PO or in the SB.

Even if he's 37 I want him on the team, like Elway or someone like that who just wanted a ring. give this dude 25 million and be dun with it. Let him be the 3rd down back for the next 5 or 6 years.

    Very nice read.

    2011 Elusive Rating

Which running backs did the best job with the ball in their hands in 2011? That question can be incredibly difficult to answer and is often based on some very misleading numbers.

Rushing yards and touchdowns are nice, but they can’t separate the job of the running back from the blocking in front of him, and many times are more indicative of the offense in general than the individual runner.

At Pro Football Focus we try and go deeper than that, and the Elusive Rating Signature Stat is our attempt at isolating the performance of a runner from his blockers by looking at what he does on each play.

    ...

Topping that list was Buffalo’s Fred Jackson, who managed 3.75 yards per carry after contact, the best mark in the NFL by a margin, and almost a full yard more per carry than most running backs.

    ...

    The Elusive Rating

    The magic formula: (MTrush + MTrec) / (Rec + Att) * (YCo / Att * 100)

We’ve now been running the Elusive Rating numbers for four seasons, and there have been a few names that consistently appear near the top of the rankings, usually players that at one time or another have been classed as ‘underrated’. Pierre Thomas has showed consistently well, as have Fred Jackson and Jonathan Stewart. All three of those players again cracked the Top 10 in 2011, with Thomas in eighth position, again topping a crowded Saints backfield. Jackson and Stewart took things to another level and finished the season 1-2 in the NFL. Stewart had a rating of 81.2 and Jackson 80.7, as the pair were way out ahead of the pack.

    ...

Jackson’s season in particular deserves some focus, because he was leading the way in the Elusive Rating standings for much of the season until injury ended his year prematurely. He had been coming back to the pack a little before he went down, but it’s a pity that we didn’t get to see what he could have achieved had he stayed healthy all season.

    ...
Kyle Williams: “But when you go inside those lines, all those things fall by the wayside. If you’re not out there for the right reasons, and that’s to beat a man, win a football game, you’re not going to last very long. This game is whip or be whipped, and I don’t like being whipped.”"

I think it's important for Spiller to understand that he is NOT our number 1, and he won't be our number 1, until Freddy is ready to hang 'em up.

He also should know that there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with that. If these two guys can both get on the field, and both contribute to winning without finding reasons to complain about "who's the starter, who's the backup" then this duo could be unstoppable.

I love it when I'm backing the right horse.

Turner ranked third with a rating more than fifteen points lower at 64.3–his rating dragged down by sheer weight of carries as the workhorse of the Atlanta backfield.

Stewart is a regular in the Top 5 of the study and his value is only reinforced with a second ER title in four seasons.

Unfortunately I don't put much into this stat.
Toby Gerhart is #5 and Ray Rice is #48

You want an ACTUAL elusive rating, Peterson is #1...Sproles is #1 in the open field.
