Jackson's Pro-bowl caliber season last year far outpaced Lynch's best not to mention that there is no other RB in the league who takes care of blocking like Jackson does.

Yea, whatever you guys say. I'm the one that's clueless LOL. If you took your blinders off you'd realize that you two among others would be screaming for Nix and Chan's head if they brought him in as a free agent from another team for this dollar amount.

It would be, OMG hez 31!1!!!1 he haz n in jury hiztory cuz he brokzorz hiz leg last yer!1!!1!!! Nix is old!1!!1 Hez frm D3 he must sucxzorz!1!!11! Waahhhh

Bottom line, Jackson has yet to produce a season like Lynch's, Lynch is actually a top 10 back where as Jackson "was on pace." And Spiller was on a better pace after replacing Jackson if we're talking woulda coulda shouldas.

He's a great homer story, but the reality of the situation is that he is an above average back, with average speed and great instincts that's 31 years old and has only cracked a thousand yards ONCE. Not could've or should've. In REALITY, his contract is more than suitable for what you get.

The Bills could cut him today and be out only 3 Million...

The money is not an issue...

Actually I did predict it. I watched him play with the Bandits and it was obvious he had talents that were exceptional. When a person so dominates any league as he did it was clear he was well suited to play at the higher echelons of the next level. The NIFL was a passing league partially because there is absolutely no room on the field to run. Doesn't matter so much that the defenses aren't as fast as the NFL, when there is no where to go, there is still no where to go. Yet Jackson found running room just as he does in the NFL. He led a strictly passing league in touchdowns and did it on the ground. But yes, I had no doubt that if he were to given a chance he would excel and I was correct.

New England would have snapped him up in a second if he had held out and possibly become available for trade this year. Belichick (probably best coach in NFL like him or not and I don't like him) truly understands talent and he is really high on Jackson, that says something. With Jackson in New England's backfield ..... well let's not go there.

When the Buffalo Bills signed Fred Jackson to a two-year contract extension earlier this week, they didn't pay a ton of new money to their top rusher - but they did make his salary more comparable to other running backs in the NFL.

Before we compare Jackson's contract to the rest of the running backs in the NFL, it's important to determine what numbers we're going to use. The extension kept Jackson's 2012 base salary intact, while adding a signing bonus to be paid immediately and two additional years of base salary totaling $5.7 million plus incentives.

2012: $1.9 million base salary from old contract, plus $3 million signing bonus from new contract
2013: $2.85 million base salary (average)
2014: $2.85 million base salary (average)
Total new money: $8.7 million new money, $10.6 million total for three years

Let's start by examining the lowest figure first. If we take Jackson's contract as a three-year agreement, he's averaging just over $3.6 million a season over the remainder of the deal. According to Spotrac.com, that places Jackson 18th in the NFL for average salary. It's behind current teammate C.J. Spiller (13th at a $5.0 million average) and former teammate Marshawn Lynch (sixth at a $7.75 million average).

If you leave Jackson's old contract alone and look at the two-year extension and the $8.7 million in new money, Jackson averages $4.35 million. That figure would place Jackson just two spots higher at 16th in the league, moving him past Jonathan Stewart and Ryan Matthews.

In either scenario, the signing bonus is as much of a thank you gift as a payment for future performance. As Jackson's performance declines, so does his base salary and cap figure. That's good news for the Bills in the long run.

For the record, Jackson's old contract averaged $1.87 million a season, which would stand at 34th in the league, just behind Arizona's LaRod Stephens-Howling. Here's the whole list of running backs averaging a higher salary than Jackson's current deal:

    1. Adrian Peterson $13.7 million
    2. Darren McFadden $10 million
    3. Chris Johnson $9.2 million
    4. Arian Foster $8.7 million
    5. DeAngelo Williams $8.6 million
    6. Marshawn Lynch $7.8 million
    7t. Ray Rice $7.7 million
    7t. Matt Forte $7.7 million
    9. Jamaal Charles $6.5 million
    10. Frank Gore $6.4 million
    11. Maurice Jones-Drew $6.2 million
    12. Michael Turner $5.8 million
    13. C.J. Spiller $5.0 million
    14. Reggie Bush $4.9 million
    15. Ahmad Bradshaw $4.5 million
    16. Ryan Matthews $4.1 million
    17. Jonathan Stewart $4.0 million
    18. Fred Jackson $3.6 million
Great post shaunta53. I thought when they released the numbers it sounded like a great deal for the Bills as a team. I'm also glad Fred is getting his. He is now a very rich man and managed to not make waves.

This tells me he makes the team each of the next three years easy.

Cool to see some facts to backup what I was thinking.
