    Default Alex Tanney

I hate to start a yet another thread about Alex Tanney; but I’ve asked this question in several other threads, and no one has responded. Can someone explain why a two time All-State QB who led his team to the state semi-finals while breaking every passing record at his high school ended-up playing in a Division III, non-scholarship, program in another state?

Why don't you ask Tanney himself?

could have been because there are a TON of High schools and tons of players going into college, and only so many starting options... maybe he liked Monmouth for their educational system and knew he could start, and probably dominate there. Not sure, unless we ask him in an interview why he chose to go to Monmouth, and whether there were offers from other schools or not? have to ask... Personally i'm not really worried about it... My high schools record wasn't all that impressive and if we had a qb break all the records and lead us to a couple state semi finals games I guarantee he would have gone completely unnoticed as well... Unless you live in Texas, (ex.) you're probably just another kid at a high school... My QB in High school now that I think about it did pretty darn well, but he ended up going to Drexel... not exactly D1... just saying, there's more to stories until we hear it from horses mouth

Gotta root for the kid though, I hope he shows us something special in mini-camp here so as to sign and compete with Corp to be our developmental project

    Actually, Drexel is D1...

But more on point... how many QB's are all-state in high school? 150 to allow for first, second, third team all state maybe? Obviously I'd imagine there are probably a hundred highschool qb's in Texas better than the best quarterback in Alaska.. but this is just a simple exercise. I'd imagine Illinois (or whatever state he is from), without knowing any facts to back it up, is at least relatively competitive in terms of prospects per state. There are 120 FBS schools, and (if my count is correct) 147 FCS schools. That leave plenty of all state people to go D1.

My question is why does it matter?

Off subject a bit but Quick question, do any of you on here choose a school for it's education programs or do you choose somewhere based on their sports programs? As a poster said above, maybe Tanney like the education program or it was close to home. I know all of us aren't gifted athletes but I talk to people in Florida that went to FSU because they liked the Seminoiles.

Maybe it is because his older brother Mitch went to Monmouth? Take over for big brother. Most likely you both have the same skill sets (body size, shape, speed, strength, pass accuracy, pass strength, intelligence). Probably knew the playbook a little. Coaches didn't have change anything. maybe?

And who said anything about Drexel?

That's right, his brother did go to school there, but I think I read somewhere that both his Dad, and his brother went to school there. so sort of a familly thing

It happens all the time. Aaron Rogers couldn't get a Division 1 scholarship, had to go to Junior College.

It's a good question to ask, is why it matters.
I was wondering why he could be that good and end up in Div III myself. I'm glad somebody asked it not that anyone here could answer it for sure although a couple have given possibilities. Going there because your family had, I would think would come secondarily to wanting to advance your football career. There's a better chance of doing that if you go to a Div I school if you're good enough for a scholarship which going by what he did in highschool you'd think he would have been.

    Bingo...we have a winner!

The question should be...why are ALL Div 3 school athletes automatically disqualified to play in the NFL by some know nothing experts?

My question is how has this kid looked at try out's rather than the YouTube clip of him throwing footballs into basketball hoops?

Drexel doesn't have a football team But I strongly disagree, while there are a ton of high schools, not all of them have great QBs. When you lead your team to the state semis or whatever he did, you are definitely going to get noticed if he was as prolific as people have said. He had to have had offers from D1 schools, but could have decided that he wanted to be a student first and an athlete second which would explain Monmouth over a D1 school where so much pressure would be put on him.

Jasper is going to pull a Remember the Titans and not block for Tanney so once again he becomes the BBMB hero....

our QB went to drexel to play basketball because he got no scholarships for Football... i wasn't very clear about that earlier... my bad... As well i didn't even realize drexel was D1 so that's also my fault... Thanks for the clarification though
