Won't work out too well when we have TJ Graham blowing the top off of them.

4-6 as in 4 lineman and 6 LBs? Fitz has a pretty quick release and if he sees it i have faith in him to audible and get it out to one of the many open receivers in that situation

Not worried about the pass rush, I'm a little worried about our WRs.

Not worried at all Vegas has us losing by 6 so not worried at all. If we win I'll be happy if not, it wouldn't surprise me.

"This formation was invented by Buddy Ryan, defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears during the 1980s. Instead of having four linemen and six linebackers (as the name may suggest), it's actually a 4-4 set using 4-3 personnel. This was accomplished by moving a safety up into the "box" instead of a fourth linebacker. The '46' refers not to any lineman/linebacker orientation but was the jersey number of hard hitting strong safety Doug Plank, the player Buddy Ryan first used in this role at Chicago. The other feature of the 46 was the placement of both "outside" linebackers on the same side of the formation, with the defensive line shifted the opposite way with the weak defensive end about 1 to 2 yards outside the weak offensive tackle. This defense was the philosophical equivalent of the "Notre Dame Box" offense devised by Knute Rockne in the 1930s, in that it used an unbalanced field and complex pre-snap motion to confuse the opposing offense. Chicago rode this defense into a 15-1 season in 1985, culminating in a 46-10 win over New England in Super Bowl XX."

They wont be using it week 1 vs our spread formations. Great thing about the spread it forces the defenses to play nickle and dime almost every snap.

It just concerns me because Fitz more likely than not hasn't seen this defense, and we'll obviously have no tape on them to start the season.

I thought it was the new "hybrid" 6 CB defence that teams are trying out to compete in the new passing league.
Sounds alot like the bend-don't-break D Jauron tried.
undersized LBrs trying to run w/ WRrs.

The Jets have used the 46 before. It's one of their common packages. Additionally, it's more of a 4-4, with the SS coming up as a LB. It's still only 4 DBs on the field though- which makes the spread easy to work. If they bring more DBs on it's no longer a 46. I wouldn't worry about it.

And I will add one thing If Fitz plays well we have a chance to wear them out. If they play that 46 against our shotgun spread Fitz should have field day. One thing I like about our offense is Chan will spread the field baby

The 46 defense was made famous by none other than Buddy Ryan, Rex's dad. This is what the Bears used in '85 SB team. We used it with Greg Williams and Jerry Gray. It is a risk and reward defense. A good oline and QB can pick it apart though.

What a dumb idea with the pass happy patriots and bills in the division... I can't really see them staying in that formation for more than 20% of the game.
Tis not the deed that confounds us, but the desire.

well following this they would seemingly need a top notch saftey. Don't think jim leonhard is considered this (pretty sure he is like 5'8" as well)

This is such a non news story its almost stupid to even reply. This is what made his name every team he has ever coached was based if the 46 scheme. This may have been news 4 yrs ago when he joined the jets.

He's also not with the team anymore. But Landry at SS would scare me in the box.
