Default Jones slotted most of the time

Donald Jones has been moved around quite a bit between three different wide receiver roles, but in OTAs he spent most of his time in the slot. It’s an interesting place for the guy with the inside track on the #2 WR job to be, but he likes it a lot. “I love the slot,” [...]

Hmm, very interesting in deed. My guess is they want Jones and Nelson in the inside in 4 wr sets with Hagan/Graham as the flanker. My guess Hagan starts out there.

I think if that is the case it's an encouraging sign that they have an idea of what they want to do for the #2 role and have some confidence that someone on the roster can handle it (and hopefully take the top off of a defense).

Ya, I think they was the number 2 in 3+ receiver sets to be strictly a deep threat. I tell you this, as a rookie, Jones was so explosive out of the slot.

some players thrive at the slot position and when forced to be on the outside haven't done as well. If he likes playing there and does well there's nothing wrong with that. He's only 6' and fairly quick and fast. I would think a smaller TJ graham would fit in that position better but he's only a rookie.

Either way, put a tall David Nelson and Stevie Johnson on the outside, Jones in the slot, mix in Graham, Hagan and Roosevelt not too bad at all

The outside is a horrible place for Nelson and he will never be there just because he is tall. 4.54 speed for starters. He plays more like a tight end than an outside receiver.

That's fine that Jones feels comfortable in the slot. Hopefully that comfort zone will cure his habit of dropping passes.

I'm thinking some 5 wide sets rotating through the ranks this year to keep guys fresh and attacking...now if Fitz can really start threading that needle we are going to be a happy city.

Jones was out of his element outside. Dropped some balls, didn't make the big play when he could have and almost got killed ot there. I've posted before Gailey wants WR who get involved in the running game and Jones/ Easley are the only 2 on the roster.

Jones should be in his element in the slot on 1st and 2nd down. Put Nelson in the slot on 3rd down to move the sticks.

in spread offenses there really is not slot or #2 WR its all about creating defensive mismatches.
so if the coaches think it can work then go for it. but then again a lot of stuff they do at OTA's scheme and formation wise you never see in camp or the regular season. they just do stuff to see how it works in OTA's

Jones played well in the slot in his rookie year in the 2nd half of the season when there were some WR injuries. I remember his first TD came from the slot in that Bengals game when Stevie went crazy.

Actually Jones caught his first TD of the year against KC week one. I think it was in the slot also.

He better find something to excel at before he becomes a camp casualty. He may lose out in the numbers game, there are a lot of receivers on the roster and 3 are locks - Johnson, Nelson and Graham.

Not sure if this is a big deal or means anything. Teams usually try some different things in the of season and it's good for all the WRs to know how to play in all these rolls and spots. It would have helped with all the injuries last year.

Did I miss something, all this talk of the number 2 slot at wr, and no mention of Easley....All indications are that he will be given every chance to win the spot, he even has Gailey believing in him, and still no mention of him. Did he get hurt? Is he done? Or has every one simply written him off?

Bold prediction, Easley wins the number 2 slot at wr and explodes opposite of Johnson.

    Predicted stats:

    8 td's
    78 catches for 750 yds
