Default Scary thought... for the rest of the league.

I watched Mark Andersen's highlights for like the 4th time, and got to thinking, besides Wilfork, what other premier players did the Pats have on that team? Players making it easier for Andersen to make plays because the other team was focused on them? Besides McCourty, what DB did they have that could hold their ground? He still gets 10 sacks.

Fast forward to 2012, Andersen is probably the 4th best player on the Bills front line, fourth best player and he was able to get 10 sacks last year on easily one of the worst defenses in the league. I understand i'm beating a dead horse or some will say wait until the season starts but this still blows my mind. Hopefully he can be a consistent force and make it extremely hard to double anyone on that line.

It sounds exciting but the one thing you're forgetting is that he played on the Pats. He's a pass rush specilast on a team that routinely blew out teams in the 1st quarter. He had a lot of opportunities to focus on only the QB.
I'm hoping that the Bills can do the same to other teams this year. This pass rush will be ridiculous if the offense puts pressure on the other team to score.

Good point, i guess i forgot about that. My point though is basically it's nice to go from having Marcell to having 4 outstanding defensive linemen and the 4th best on the front four had ten sacks last year, when was the last time you saw that in Buffalo? haha

LOL at Devin McCourty holding his own last year. He was one of the worst players in the NFL in 2011.

But I understand your sentiment. I think Anderson can flourish in Wanny's system and playing beside three Pro Bowlers.

Wilfork, Mayo, Spikes played well, Andre Carter also had 10 sacks...there was talent on their D last year. DBs was definitely the weak point though, and McCourty really regressed from his rookie season.

But yeah, he's playing on a DL this season with more pass rush potential, should be interesting to see if he flourishes or not.

Define flourish? he may not have as many sacks but if gets pressure and flushes the QB to another player, then the Bills still win with his acquisition.

Flourish = play well, I can't think of another way to define it.

Flourish- pertaining to or related to flour.

He played next to Wilfork and across from Carter, with a solid MLB in Mayo and another highly underrated because he's not a "name", Rob Ninkovich. Kyle Arrington led the league in picks last year.

Yeah, I forgot about Ninkovich, he's also a talented guy.

We have ONE outstanding lineman and three good ones.

At this stage I wouldn't rate Dareus over Anderson either.

    Thread killer!

I can agree that Andersen has out-performed Dareus, but Marcel was a rook last year. Andersen has been in the league for like 7 years. However, based on potential, Dareus has the edge.

Dareus has a chance to be something very special with this d-line around him. They will find out, you can't block him one on one. That's why I think that this front four is going to be special. Anyone know how big Anderson is. Because we have three guys that are 290 lbs +, & they can all run!

The fact of the matter is we have 4 guys that other teams are gonna have to game plan around. That's the beauty of having 4 proven d linemen. Kelsay hasent exactly been a huge threat. We should see huge things from all 4 of those guys this yr

As a rabid Alabama and Bills fan, when the Bills drafted Dareus I was overwhelmed. We are going to see him manifest into a force to be reckoned with because of the simple fact that, like posted above by steptide, the offensive lines are going to have to account for 4 effective DL...leaving the possibility of alot of one on ones.... Dareus will be Ferocious

Same here. I was ecstatic when we drafted big Marcell.

Out performed? Okay yeah he had a massive tackle total, but he didn't even have 30 tackles

At this point I'm content to say that the Bills' defensive line has the potential to create lots of headaches for the teams they face this year. I agree that Marcel had a very nice rookie season, and he's probably going to get better. Everyone on the line has the potential to be disruptive, so put them all together and it becomes like that this line can put a lot of pressure on opposing QBs without having to blitz all the time.
    My adopt-a-Bill is Marcel Dareus.

i fail to see this, as far as production yeah obviously Andersen is better, but if you ask people who they would rather have, i guarantee you 9/10 the'y pick Dareus, in my eyes he will be better than Andersen this year.
