    Default contract loopholes?

i was just wondering if its standard practice that teams offer players "outside" money that stays off the cap radar? we have seen sj's contract and agree we got a pretty good deal, but we also see him in all the advertising on everything bills this season. so can teams keep guys that would normally be too much of a cap hit by saying heres a low contract for xxx million but we have another outside contract for yyy million to do advertising or whatever.

I understand players can have endorsment deals from anyone, im talking specifically from teams to keep thier salary cap low.

with guys like jerry jones walking around you have to wonder if some teams are way over the cap but a ton of it isnt on the books?

    thoughts?

I don't think that Teams can offer endorsement contracts. I think that is just part of being in the NFL...you have to do so many charity/community events, so many interviews with CB or local affiliates, etc.

I honestly do believe that Stevie gave Buffalo a home town deal. He would of gotten a lot more money from an outside source but I bet that Nix let him in on their plan to go after players like Meachum, Mario, etc.

there are monies and bonuses that can be put into contracts that dont count against the cap, or dont count in year one....I think there are some stipulations where you can push money out 3 years before it hits your cap....you just have to becareful not to over cap your self that year if you do that.

I dont think there was alot of money for SJ on the market, he isnt a dominant WR yet, he has shown flashes but also has shown immaturity and slippery hands...Buffalo was the best place for him and the market else where I dont think would have been all that great.

well its just odd that all off season sj has done every promo and is in all the pictures for the most part. youd think they would be pushing mario williams on the front of the site and all the advertizing since hes the biggest name...or any of the other players. knowing about spygate and all the shenanigans in NCAA, you have to believe that these deals are happening in some form. how much is what im wondering, because with teams in huge markets im sure advertizing deals are struck on the basis a player stays and can be included as insentives that do not count agaisnt the cap. another advantage to the big guys.

Not really odd, every team markets their future stars and "face" of the team.....when you take into account marketability and carissma(sp) SJ is the guy.

hmm does it not count ever or is it just pushed back? if its just pushed back i think thats okay because its just a front/ back loaded contract to manipulate when you wanna take a big cap hit. but the money that does not show up ever, if it is getting carried away, will kill the idea of a cap in the first place. and it basically becomes, whoever spends the most buys and keeps the best players.

true im not really accusing them or anything, it just got me thinking of ways teams can easily get around the system. and just how corrupt things could be.
