he doesn't make it past the first round of cuts...
we won't need trickery on offense this year and he's a lousey WR
edit: and he can't throw the ball accurately which removes that threat
from wild-cat formation.

no, chan would prefer not to need to use trickery and just be able
to move the ball down the field with his normal offense at will...
the wild-cat is a gimmick offense that is only used when your normal
offense can't get the job done imo.
time to move on and wear our big boy pants

Role player yes, marginal....No. He converted a lot of third downs for us that we probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise. He is the only guy in recent memory that when I saw him come in on third and short, I was confident we would pick up the first down. Prior to that, I remember third and short and we were getting stuffed.
He is on the feild more than anyone on the entire team. What he brings creates 2 or 3 more spots on the roster. 5wr. 3rd qb. All kick coverage. Return ability. Wildcat qb. Imo that should be our short yard qb everytime.
I think any coach would want to move the ball with their "normal" offense at will, but sometimes you have to be creative and throw in an unsuspected wrinkle in this league. I don't think the wildcat is necessarily a "gimmick offense". Its just another formation, but if it works effectively when you use it, then why not implement or keep it? Also, like pointed out previously, Smith can take up one roster spot and also offer support at multiple positions. The guy is a good football player.
If he doesnt stick at wr he gets cut
