Vince Young already nailing down the #2 QB spot?

Good read, talks about David Lee helping fix Youngs mechanics like he's doing with Fitz. I kind of feel sorry for Thigpen. He seems like a good guy but he has next to no chance of beating out VY and making this team.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — It won’t be a surprise if Vince Young quickly pulls away in the battle to be the Buffalo Bills’ backup quarterback.

He might already be doing so.

Although head coach Chan Gailey said Friday that the team’s pre-season training camp doesn’t really begin until Saturday, when the first practice in full pads takes place, Young already has looked much better than Tyler Thigpen, who last year backed up starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick (That’s my photo of Fitz above left, with Young on Friday.)

If that’s only because Thigpen is stinking up the St. John Fisher College practice fields, so be it.

After struggling with second-team reps on Thursday, Thigpen tossed two ugly interceptions with the third-teamers in 11-on-11 drills on Friday afternoon. On one he locked onto a thoroughly covered receiver on a short route and threw it to him anyway.

Thigpen and Young flip-flopped between the second and third teams by design in the first two days of camp, and might continue to do so until a clear No. 2 emerges.

If current trends continue, that won’t take long............

- Vince Young continued the trend of backup quarterbacks not having a great day throwing the ball. While there were a few nice passes Young connected on -- particularly downfield -- as a whole he was erratic and wildly inaccurate. Of course the newest Bills quarterback is in a battle with Tyler Thigpen to be the backup quarterback to Ryan Fitzpatrick, and got the second-team snaps on Friday. Those will once again be Thigpen's on Saturday as the two continue to switch daily.

I'd actually say that Thigpen has the edge as of right now.

VY has had the advantage since the day he signed in Buffalo because he's an elite talent compared to Thigpen. He's also a proven winner at both the college and pro level, and has led teams to the playoffs multiple times, something that even our starting QB has never done let alone Thigpen.

I really don't understand what some fans have against VY unless they are truly paranoid he might displace Fitz at some point this season.

Either way it's time to get behind him because he's not going anywhere.

When you've read through previous camp reports about Trent Edwards looking good and Fitzpatrick getting cut...

Yeah...just going to leave it to the Regular Season to figure out who should be playing.

Here's another camp report from today that pretty much says the same thing...Thigpen looked horrible and Young (and Fitz) looked great:

After that, I walked back over to the offense where they were participating in 2-on-1 drills (QB/WR vs. DB). Good news: in both short and long routes, Fitzpatrick and Young were pretty much perfect, Fitz being the clear winner of the two. I wish I could say the same for Thigpen and Smith, but I guess that’s why they decided to bring in Young. The #1 and #2 QB’s had sharp, accurate passes, with Fitzpatrick looking particularly solid in the lob throws, and even more so with Donald Jones. Thigpen and Smith just looked sloppy, but that could of been exaggerated considering the different caliber of wide outs they were throwing to.

I feel the same way about thigpen, they both suck. but vy really sucks and that's pretty bad when he ends up being beat out by thigpen so I wont have to worry about being mad but to be honest I wont be mad because if vy was by some miracle able to beat out thigpen, I'd end up feeling the same way I have for the last couple years, we end up having a back up who sucks and likely wouldn't see the field anyway. it's you and the vy cronies that will be mad and I'll be glad to see them fade off into the sunset right along with vy....

The only 'sick fetish' I see is fans that prefer a QB like Thigpen over a former NCAA Champion and NFL QB with a winning record and decent overall resume as a starter. See, that's where your wrong. neither are my preference but the team and coaches have decided that they would be the two battling for the # 2 spot. I have nothing to do with it, hence I have no preference, obsession or fetish.


I saw him in college, he was decent, won a heisman I believe, but do you know how many QB's that were great in college yet didn't transition into the nfl, a whole lot. besides if he was this almighty elite QB you think he is why the **** is he fighting for a back up job, back up!

both are weak and if you've been a fan long enough you would know we haven't had a legitimate back up since ****ing Frank Reich for christ sake.

I could care less about the whole #2 QB arguement.
I want the best #2 on the sideline.

What exactly is a controvesies? Or controvesy? I think real "fans" should know how to spell a word. I would give you a pass except you failed being able to spell the word more than once inside the same post. Takes talent...Maybe you should get a book of synonyms. That way if you have a problem with a particular word you could figure out a word that you could spell to support your argument.

You're seriously troubled. Heres a little tip that might help you to make more sense of situations throughout the rest of your life.

When a coach (coach, not fan) goes on record to say that there will be a battle for a backup QB and that one (we will call him Thigpen) is of the advantage because of he knows the offense and the other (we will call this one Young) is going to have to really word hard to get into the swing of things if he wants the job, all of this usually means that one has an advantage over the other. Vince Young may be physically more appealling to you and yours, however, there are other elements of being a professional Qb in the league. When a coach says it, you kind of have to believe its the case.

So, before you get all bent out of shape, your assessment of VY means nothing, nada, zilch to the actual situation in Buffalo. And unless your in process of becoming either the head or QB coach next week, it never will. Sit back, relax. Drink some kool aid and watch cartoons until the situation sorts itself out. At which time, a coach (again, not a fan) will announce the winner. And the loser will be sent away.
