Vince Young already nailing down the #2 QB spot?

I am neither for nor against VY. Young has some history and athleticism that impresses some (I get caught up in that as well), but I think the general thought (at least from coaches/scouts) is that he never translated real well to the NFL (due to style and/or knowledge) and that he is a a risk. Thigpen surely hasn't shown much either. All I can say is that's Chan's decision and his job could depend on it, so I defer to him. I will sit here and hope neither of them have to play for any extended periods.

I caught Buddy on the John Murphy show last night for a brief minute. Although he was clear that it is an opened competition for the #2 spot, he spoke about what VY brings to the table that is both very unique and hard to defend. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say they are just wiating to see VY do what they already know he can do and the deal is done.

He's also played on some significantly better teams than Fitzpatrick or Thigpen for that matter. He contributed sure, but Ws are a team stat

Even If they are close throwing the ball, young has a massive advantage with athleticism. That piece meshes very well with Gailey. Young could be used on situational football. It's his job to lose.

You're seriously troubled. Heres a little tip that might help you to make more sense of situations throughout the rest of your life.

When a coach (coach, not fan) goes on record to say that there will be a battle for a backup QB and that one (we will call him Thigpen) is of the advantage because of he knows the offense and the other (we will call this one Young) is going to have to really word hard to get into the swing of things if he wants the job, all of this usually means that one has an advantage over the other. Vince Young may be physically more appealling to you and yours, however, there are other elements of being a professional Qb in the league. When a coach says it, you kind of have to believe its the case.

So, before you get all bent out of shape, your assessment of VY means nothing, nada, zilch to the actual situation in Buffalo. And unless your in process of becoming either the head or QB coach next week, it never will. Sit back, relax. Drink some kool aid and watch cartoons until the situation sorts itself out. At which time, a coach (again, not a fan) will announce the winner. And the loser will be sent away.

If that was true, then Young would have been named the #2 QB and Thigpen would already be gone. Gailey doesn't believe in keeping demoted QBs around on his team.

I think that they'd like to see Young win the #2 job because of his superior athletic ability. However, they aren't sure he can learn/function within the Bills offense, and they won't keep him unless he can. There's the cerebral part of playing QB in the NFL, and that's where Young has struggled in the past.

FTR, both Nix and Gailey never say anything bad about players. They always find positives.

The only 'sick fetish' I see is fans that prefer a QB like Thigpen over a former NCAA Champion and NFL QB with a winning record and decent overall resume as a starter. Seriously what rational NFL fan, let alone a Bills fan, would believe that Thigpen is a better QB than VY unless they have never seen VY play the game?

I really don't understand the hatred towards VY unless it's just a cover for fans running scared because they deep down they know that VY is a better QB than Fitz and know another QB controversy is imminent once the preseason games start.

IMO, what I bolded above is the reason you catch so much flack. Your trying to play up VY based on his past. Well, I would agree, VY has had some accomplishments. But more importantly, what is he doing now? Answer that question honestly, and you might not like the answer based on what you would like to believe. Something happened to him, and it has hurt his game.
I think most people would believe, myself included, that VY will get the nod for #2 however. And again, based on your comments, you seem to think he should have Fitz's job, even though Fitz is night and day a better prospect than VY is. Its time to let go of the past because its not the future. I can all but promise you that the people making the decisions about who starts are looking at whats going on in the present.

he and a few others. it's an infatuation I have never seen here(aside from savioredwards, he was a real jock sniffer)for a player and most of them are new members one even as late as today that I don't look at as Bills fans but nothing more than vy fans. personally, not only because vy sucks do I not want to see him make the team but when he's cut these vy band-wagoners can leave with him.

Folks here mention how long we haven't been a playoff contender. stop and think about this, the last time we really were who was our back up? that's right, Frank Riech. what happened when Kelly went down and we needed a back up to step in, that's right Frank led the team to the largest comeback in NFL history.

This team has not had a legitimate back up since and the two battling it out are far from legitimate and if Fitz goes down for any length of time we will be taking steps back from contention rather than forward. until this team or these coaches, FO or GM really make an effort to fill the back up position, the team is in a world of hurt. You need a legitimate back up and if they were going to bring someone in to battle the almighty thigpen they could of done a hell of a lot better than vy.
