I don't care either way who the backup will be. I guess it would be kind of cool to see Vince Young on the roster, just because of who he is (and because of Madden speed).

But, based on comments from Nix on the John Murphy Show Friday, I think Vince Young's performance in practice will have no bearing on his roster spot, good or bad. Nix said that he plays well in games, despite often poor practices.

I would say that, unless he throws numerous interceptions and incompletions in the preseason, he will supplant Thigpen as the number 2.

Additionally, there are other factors that impact the decision. Thigpen makes $4 million against the cap. If they give you equal play, or if Thigpen is only slightly better, then it makes fiscal sense to cut Thigpen. Young is also a Free Agent-attracting icon type player.

If any QB goes down, and the backup plays well, you'll have a QB Controversy. If not a controversy, one of the players will be traded the following season for high rewards.

Fear of a controversy is no reason to avoid good backups.

If that's the case, why does it matter who the backup is?

Marv Levy always said that Depth is great, until you have to use it. The Young/Thigpen debates are pointless, except for talking about how much money each takes off the cap.

If you've got Tom Brady backing up Peyton Manning, then the cap hit of the backup is a non-issue because the replacement player if the starter goes down will keep the team winning. But if the starter is replaced by someone like Chad Henne, then the cost of Chad Henne would have an impact on your decision.

Why would you even want that? provided VY makes the team, we've already seen what happens when Young hasn't had ample time to learn the Offense.

    Don't jinx the Bills...and Young...

It will be tough to not have Young on the team and I think this is the best move for him. Humble and learn how to play as a QB. He is such a good athlete he never learned the game. If Gailey and Lee and teach him how to play QB he will be a serviceable option. I dont know how well he could run this offense as its much more suited to Fitz but Thigpen is not a QB I would want doing anything other than holding a clipboard whereas Young with the right tools could be a decent option.

Fitz is the guy, he is a top 15 QB and I think will make the move to another level this year not having to play from behind so much.

It's not a jinx. It's one of those things that's meant to be. Let's face it no player with his career is going to be happy being a #2 guy. And one of the main reasons he joined the bills because it provides him a good chance to be a starter again. I checked the bills schedule and I know there are two guaranteed victories if VY is starting. Titans and the Texans. VY never loses to the Texans and with Mario that's a sure fire W.

Looking at the schedule how many games do the bills need to make the playoffs? What win/loss record are predicting this year?

that would sound great if he was a WR.

He's taking away from good, actual discussion, and making anyone who does like VY look unintelligent.

So having a 31-19 record as a starter is not knowing how to play a NFL game? Compared to Fitz who's record which is just the opposite. Let's be honest no journey man QB in his 9th year will suddenly be a probowl QB unless he's already been a Probowler. No knock on Fitz but that type of thing never happens.

Im sorry, I didnt realize that I needed to have perfect english in order to be a bills fan. Perhaps you should look at the Vy lovers english around here. I could point out some more serious english mistakes then some misspelled words. As far as the arguement is concerned, I think as long as people get the point, thats all that matters.

Controversy... is what we these so called "fans" are trying to stir up at the QB postition. If you dont see it then thats your problem.
