    chris brown Does Preseason Matter?

This topic has been going absolutely crazy on this board since our last game. I want to get a head count. How many of you take Buffalo Bills preseason games seriously? How many people think preseason is a waste of time and worry? Wait for the poll and vote away!

They matter in the fact that you can somewhat judge how your starters are playing fundamentally. Are they executing as expected or are they behind. Do the coaches not use these games to find weaknesses that need improved upon? I think so.

No, the score doesn't matter. Yes, the performance of fringe players matters. No, just that we come out of the come with no injuries. Yes, for rookies getting their first taste of NFL football. No, for strategy and game plans. Yes, for developing on-field relationships (ie QB and receivers.)

I voted no, but clearly I should have voted "I can't make decisions for myself because I'm unintelligent."

They matter to someone or they wouldn't play them. Individual series matter..the game does not. My opinion.

They are a waste of time,,,,,unless you want to evaluate players and packages.

They matter and are essential in evaluating the guys in competitive positions. It also shakes the cobwebs loose and prepares a team for the regular season. Does the W-L matter? Absolutely not! Only the regular season counts on the road to the playoffs and the Super Bowl.
CHANGED MY SIG 4/24/13: Time to stick my neck out. I am going to be consistent as stated in posts the past couple months. Manuel is the best QB in this draft and I hope so badly that Nix doesn't screw it up and not take him in the 1st. I was pissed in the 3rd when Wilson was not taken and made it clear on this board last year immediately after the draft and I don't want to do it with Manuel this year.

There are only two things going on in Pre-Season games.

First, the starting offense and defense are getting their execution and timing down. Football is a game of pre-scripted moves all made be 11 guys in about 4 seconds or less. Timing is everything. The defense is practicing REACTING to those same moves.

Second, the rest of the guys are fighting for jobs.....period. The second stringer do not want to lose a job and the third and fourth string guys want to take their jobs.

Finally, EVERYONE is trying to do all of this without getting injured. (Cuz the 1st stringers don't want to lose a starting spot and the other guys don't want to lose a job!)

Does that not sum it up? The rest is just noise.

The games are useless and they should only have 2 if any.

I think this poll should have been open, so I know to ignore list the "yes" people. For years I didn't add many to my ignore list thinking everyone's opinion was worth hearing. This year has proved that altruistic notion to be very very false. Especially with the VY shills.
A new year, a new hope, go Bills.

Matter? In other words does playing well in the preseason mean your going to play well in the regular season? Does playing bad in preseason mean your going to play bad in the regular season?

I think the answer is pretty easy. I think preseason means everything until the regular season starts, if that makes sense. Its all we have to look at, but its not real. Like I said in another thread, preseason is whatever you want to make it, its still all opinion not fact. The facts start in the regular season.

Yes they matter. The final score doesn't matter but how players perform absolutely does.

When you haven't made the playoffs in over a decade and look as bad in preseason as you have for over a decade in the regular season YES it matters. Does the score? No. Does how crappy and lost we look matter? Absolutely.

By week 3 last year, it was firmly established that preseason games do not matter. That is all that needs to be said. We had a horrible preseason and then started 3-0 with a win against NE. How could preseason matter? It freaking doesn't.

We looked bad last year and got off to a great start. Preseason doesn't show the fans anything.

Don't act like that isn't just BS player talk. These guys don't give 2 craps about whether they win or lose in the preseason. There is absolutely no way he cares. He would have to be a fool to actually care about the score.
