Does anyone remember that brief time about 4 years ago where every thread started with "_____ got hosed."? I think it started with "JP Losman got hosed"...

in retrospect, the Bills got the short end of that trade big time. Marshawn has kept out of trouble since the trade and also had huge production for the Seahawks.

in retrospect, we should have traded Fred for whatever we could have gotten and instead kept Lynch and Spiller. That would have been sick.

You're thinking the Lynch in Seattle would have shown up in Buffalo. That wasn't gonna happen. The real issue was the Bills regime not realizing that and not skipping over him for Darrelle Revis.

Cordy Glenn - let him play left tackle people. Geesh!

My expectations for our new coach are simple.
    1. Have the ability to locate decent stop gap players that are better players than the last ones who were on this roster for far too long.
    2. Win as many games as you can, but when you lose ... get beat, don't follow in the steps of your predecessors who seemed to try and find new and inventive ways to loose winnable games.

Just wait til they draft Montee Ball or Kenjon Barner in the 1st round in 2013.

Stayed out of trouble??? Maybe you missed it but he was arrested for DUI this past July. It was his 3rd run in with the law since entering the league and will get suspended for it. The only reason he didn't get suspended yet is because his lawyer managed to postpone his court date until after the season and the NFL won't make a disciplinary ruling until the player has their day in court. I suspect he'll miss 4-6 games next season and that most likely won't be his last issue with the law.

He's doing well right now but you can't rely on your starting RB when he's always facing legal issues and possible suspensions.

I remember saying this before the trade even happened, there were rumors floating around that we were going to deal him to Seattle for a conditional 5th round pick, I couldn't believe it. I was at one of our home games 2 weeks before.he was dealt 2 rows directly behind Marshawn on the bench, I shouted "BEASTMODE!!!!" after every snap he got. What fools they are, this trade alone deserves to get somebody fired, I'm sorry.

A role player? Yawn. He's a mediocre backup tackle. Tank Carder is a nobody.
Lynch is one of the best running backs in the league.

That's all you need to know. The Bills certainly got hosed on this deal....

Give him another year or two and he will be suspended. They traded him because of all his off the field issues. The next thing he does, probably drunken driving again, he will be suspended indefinitely. This is not counting on the DWI case against him now that has yet to be resolved. He is the same immature bastard he was here. I am glad that they got rid of him.
    Trade down...

Why do people not understand that he didn't want to be here? Getting a 4th round swing tackle is better than keeping him around when he was slow, fat, and unmotivated for what would eventually be 4-12 and 6-10 seasons, just to see him walk away in FA anyway.

We did not get hosed. We got the appropriate value for him when he was traded away, how we chose to use those picks is irrelevant in this regard.

    - had unregistered guns

looking back, those things aren't so bad. but i guess that's why teams like the Seahawks go to the playoffs and the Bills are perennial basement dwellers.
Oh please, he was one more "not THAT bad" incident away from getting an 8 game suspension, minimum.

Buffalo has NEVER made a trade where they didn't get hosed. They lose every trade they make. Way back they traded Daryl Lamonica who went on to win a couple of super bowls with the Raiders for a BLIND quarterback and washed up reciever! The quarterback, Tom Flores, was legally blind, and to top it off he also saw double shadows. That was the trade that started their bad luck that lasted for 50 years. Wison was jinxed and it won't end until they bury him in the bone yard.

I'd argue that in recent history, the only trades we got hosed on were Tarvaris Jackson (which was only for a late round pick, and only because of Gailey's incompetence), and the Takeo Spikes trade, because Darwin Walker never even showed up to camp.

I'd say the Peters trade worked out fine for us - in the same way the Lynch trade did, in that he wouldn't have been as good for us as he is for whom he's playing for now. Lynch was in a committee, and Peters was whiny and unmotivated, and hadn't even played that great the previous year.

I'd say we won the McGahee and Evans trades as well.

Maybe there are more trades I can't think of offhand, but I'd hardly say we get hosed every time we try to wheel and deal.

Oh my God! Are you serious or are you trying to be a funny guy? You can't be serious. Jason Peters was an ALL-Pro left tackle at that time. The value of an ALL-Pro left tackle is sky high, as left tackle is the most important position on the offensive line!! McGahee, Evans, and Marshawn were all FIRST ROUND PICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When you get a 4th round pick for a 1st rounder it's like trading a battle ship for a row boat!! Take the Patriots and Bill Belichick for example. Drew Bledsoe was a 1st round pick. After they used him for almost 10 years and he was washed up, Billy boy fleeced the Bills and got TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS for him!! That's right, TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS for the one 1st round pick they used to get Bledsoe. Now that's getting value for your 1st round guy that you used for a few years!!! Now that's WINNING a trade!! Belichick should have went to jail for robbery!!

Let me ask you this. If you were the Bills GM and a team came up to you before the 2013 draft, and asked if they could have your 1st round pick for their 4th round pick, would you do it??

Nuff said, I rest my case!! The Bills lost 90% of the trades they made.

If you want to be pissed at the Bills for not getting 1st round talent with their first rounders, great, that pisses me off too. But in a trade you don't make it based on where they went in the draft. Peters was an all-pro tackle? Great. He was also disgruntled, playing worse than his previous year, and refusing to play for anything less than a massive new contract when he'd already signed one beforehand. Those are all negatives that drive down value.

Evans was a 1st rounder YEARS before we traded him, that would be like complaining if the Niners traded Randy Moss right now for a late round pick because he was once taken in the 1st.

The difference between Drew Bledsoe and all the examples you gave is that Bledsoe was still young and playing well at the most important position in the NFL.

Also, please re-read the question you asked. I'll repeat, trading a player for his value doesn't mean we got hosed, no matter where they were drafted. It means we need to learn how to draft better.
