Spikes, like Te'o, was an excellent zone coverage LB at Florida.

In his Junior and Senior seasons, he had 6 interceptions and returned 4 for TDs.

Spikes was a dominant college LB in all aspects of the game, but he couldn't run. Because of his lack of speed, he's been limited to run stopping duties only since joining the NFL.

Brandon Spikes had 6 picks in college and he ran a 5+ second forty.

Speed means next to nothing at the college level if you're big and strong.

The NFL is a different story. Speed is king in the pros.

If you can't defend the pass in the NFL as a linebacker, you shouldn't be a 1st round pick.

To be a 1st round pick as a LB, you need to be the type of player who NEVER comes off the field on defense.
It's thinking like this...thinking that completely dismisses HEART and LEADERSHIP and focuses 100% on 40 speed and BS Tangibles...that results in Losman, Mike Williams, McKelvin, Maybin, TJ Graham...dismissing great leaders like Russel "too short" Wilson, and London "too old" Fletcher.

Players are more than measurables...I can't really describe what I mean exactly but after I heard interviews with Wilson I knew he would be successful...same deal with RGIII...the man is a MAN and a leader with a good head on his shoulders. He isn't a big baby or a box of rocks.

The same can be said of Manti...he's not a coddled baby who's just an athlete or a box of racks attached to a physical specimen. He's a LEADER of men and he's intelligent. His FOOTBALL speed is great for his position...don't know what that is? See Jerry Rice and Marshall Faulk.

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning don't have the BEST, Strongest Arms in the NFL but the are LEADERS and are extremely football intelligent.

In order to make a box of rocks/physical specimen or a phenomenal Athlete/Big Baby viable on a football team you NEED a Leader...until we get those leaders...we'll have what we have...every year...and it won't matter who we draft.
I don't care who starts, who sits, who gets "a raw deal", who has a "noodle arm", who blocks, who drops passes because at the end of the day...if you're on the Bills...you're my favorite player...

I think I know exactly what you mean. And I concur.
If he is there I think Buddy will pick Teo. I think he trades back into the first for his QB.

Here's the question: is T'eo really that slow?

If he's slow, how are his instincts?

Aaron curry "safest player" in the draft in 09' draft currently a free agent, Rolando McClain looked like a monster at Bama and is a scrub in the nfl. BELIEVE me I know the bills need a line backer I just don't think T'eo in round one is the answer.
Te'o 40 time will be huge for him. Many scouts think hes too slow to cover tightends in the NFL. which could lead to his "stock dropping" the 40 time and agility drills will be huge for him at the combine.
    In Barkley We Trust!

Future Buffalo Bills 8th overall pick in the NFL draft
