Love the Caldwell idea. Also wouldnt be totally against giving Nix one more year and making Whaley a "GM in waiting"
Where would you rather be, then right here, right now!

Banks' article sounds more like speculation than inside info to me. He goes on about Reid being able to command this huge salary yet doesn't pinpoint which teams in the HC market are players for his services. The only team likely to shell out that kind of coin is Dallas and there's no way Jerry Jones is going to fade into the background to give Reid this kind of power.

As for the Bills, it will come down to who Ralph trusts more, Russ Brandon or Buddy Nix. Brandon wants a wholesale front office purge. If he carries more weight with Ralph than Buddy he'll get it. If Brandon gets his way, I could see a major push for a name like Reid, Payton, Gruden, Cowher, Dungy, Chip or Brian Kelly. That means sell outs and double the jersey and ticket sales we have now. It also means Ralph doesn't have to have a GM salary in the front office.

My feeling is we have organizational stability for the first time in a long time. I think Ralph likes and trusts Buddy. Despite the inaction at QB (which I attribute to Ralph not Buddy), Buddy's drafts and signing of Mario look pretty solid. Our talent is much improved if misused since Buddy took the reins. Ralph doesn't like paying out dead coaching or player money no matter how bad things are on the field. I think Ralph will meet them halfway and demand a new coaching staff with no other front office changes that threaten Buddy's status. That means no HC who will demand personnel power - yet.

So in order to protect ourselves from the fallout we experienced last time we changed HCs (I know hope is a scary feeling) I suggest you develop a list of small name coaches who represent improvement but no threat to the front office structure. Sorry but I just don't see us hiring an ST coach from any team no matter how good.

So the Bills should dump Nix because Nix has said the Bills really need to find a QB, rather than continue to rely on Ryan Fitzpatrick? Makes sense to me.

Quite honestly, Nix only said what we all think is obvious. We know Nix is a little more open about his team building strategy than some other GMs. To this point that has not seemed to affect his ability to do what he set out to do. I can see dumping him for the team's lack of success on the field. He was instrumental in hiring Chan Gailey, though we all know the condition of the franchize did not make Buffalo a very attractive landing spot for A-list coaching candidates that Nix said he was seeking. I think just about any GM in the position Nix is in right now would be hungry for a decent QB. It's just that most would not be so up front about it. As I said, being up front hasn't seemed to hurt Nix in the past. Nix has also recently said Buffalo is not going to ignore value when it comes to obtaining a QB.

Go ahead, be careful what you wish for. Whaley has done nothing wrong while he's been here. If Whaley was dumped in this short of time, he'd be unemployed for about 5 seconds. We, on the other hand, would never get a second look from a competent young executive for years after treating Whaley like that.

Why would people want Nixs' head? I understand the record but we are finally hitting on draft picks, big name free agents are starting to sign... I just don't get the logic behind it. Gailey I entirely agree with but Nix has been nothing but upfront with the fan base since coming here and yes he did hire Gailey and this staff but I'm sure he wasn't his choice, it was another Ralph Wilson cheap coaching option like it always has been.

I do commend him for not taking Jimmy Clausen, but Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick were right there for the taking in the 2nd round of the 2011 draft. Instead we got a disappointing corner. We could have two decent lines and a franchise QB in line for a new coach this year. Nix could then turn his attention to linebacker and WR, but his love affair with Fitzpatrick may have cost him his job.

Has Nix had a couple of nice accomplishments? Certainly.
And he can hang his Bill's hat on those as he walks right out the door as far as I'm concerned.
To me, his failure to net this team a solid QB during a couple of drafts very deep with play caller talent & his inability to see just how incapable Gailey is of leading the team into contention are offenses just TOO big to overlook.
Besides, not to play the ageism card here, but he's in his 70s. We need some energy & fresh, new ideas in the front office.

Nix has done some good things here (stregthening the lines etc.), but has failed miserably in the two most important areas; hiring a good HC (not entirely Nix's fault as he couldn't get a sniff from anyone during the interview process) and not upgrading the all important QB position (very much his fault, no excuse for it) and no successful GM can allow that to take place. At this point, I'm fine with his dismissal. Let Caldwell, Whaley and whomever else interview for the position.

You promote Buddy to some title like VP of Football Operation and his job description is evaluating SEC talent. We need to get rid of guys like Brandon who just are intermediaries who won't say anything out of line to get them into trouble. The guy who talks to Ralph Wilson everyday needs to go along with guys like Littman and Overdorf who have misread the talent market and allowed players like PAt Williams to leave only to overpay lesser players to take their place.
    ADOPT A BILL:
Cordy Glenn - let him play left tackle people. Geesh!

My expectations for our new coach are simple.
    1. Have the ability to locate decent stop gap players that are better players than the last ones who were on this roster for far too long.
    2. Win as many games as you can, but when you lose ... get beat, don't follow in the steps of your predecessors who seemed to try and find new and inventive ways to loose winnable games.
