Thread: Couple Things...Nothing Major

Baldat- Thanks for sharing- always appreciate

Kelly- Personally kind of torn- I am not a big fan of college coaches in the NFL, for every Harbaugh there seems to be 2 or 3 of Spurrier/Petrino/Holtz

Wiz- Not my first choice- but actually I prefer him over Lovie when comparing the 2

Marrone- Again, college coaches worry me, but with his NFL ties and previous experience as an NFL coach, I could actually embrace

Gruden- Let me just say, I understand why NFL teams worry about giving one guy too much control. Mike Holmgren is a prime example. Way better in Seattle after giving up GM duties. Not saying it cant work, just I understand, and probably agree with teams more than the individual in these situations

As far as your Whaley comment, I agree, if he is the GM of the future, at least to me you have to weigh his choice heavily. I would hope he believes highly in someone he believes he can work with. If it is Marrone, fine.

If Gruden is so great, why hasn't he had a coaching gig, even as an assistant, in 4 years?
Linda, if you look back on my message history (not faulting you for not doing so) you will notice that I'm not all that high on Gruden. I just think the Bills need to start practicing what they preach in bringing in the coaches that have the resume of a Gruden.
Doug Marrone "We have the ability to affect a region, by putting a productive, winning football team out there. That’s our higher calling. If you’re not buying into that then you don’t need to be here. You can go play for some other team. We don’t want those kinds of players on our football team."

Im curious as to what power Gruden wants as well..... But he is a proven coach. Id go all in for him or chip kelly.

Also that Gruden isn't their top choice, but they are looking for a coach with NFL and super bowl experience.

    Cowher, Holmgren?

So Gruden was interested and we passed? That seems like a roll reversal. I would be all for chuckie in Buffalo. If our only other choice to avoid mediocrity is Kelly then I am all for Kelly.

Doesn't mean anything but Gruden contemplated being the OC with the Ducks JUST to learn Kelly's offense/philosophy.

Perfect world which will never eeeeever happen would be Chip as HC and Gruden as OC.

Well they didn't get quite to that point, they asked him if we're to comeback to coaching what would he expect, and he wanted final say...they never actually interviewed him but they did speak with him....

A bit of interesting news as well is the Bills have done a 180 when it comes to the interview process...3 years ago the Bills were coming off desperate and seemed like will you coach our team? Now they are going into the interviews and are basically asking why would you be a good coach for our team....just nice to hear the Bills view this as an NFL job this time around
I've been to the top, there's not a lot of oxygen there, so I'm fine where I'm at.

Thank you baldat, I am really just glad to hear that we checked with him and it wasn't for us. We have options for once. Personally I think we should go for someone that wants to be our coach. Lovie, Horton, or Marrone.

At the moment, Whiz is my personal 3rd choice in the HC mix but the way some of you talk, are you kidding? failed? The guy took the freaking Cardinals to the Superbowl one year and the NFL Championship game the other and all as a rookie HC, what more can you want? He got a great replacement for Warner in Kolb who for a few reasons just didn't work out (mostly injury), it happens. But he succeeded with a team that was in the same or worse situation then the Bills are currently in.

My opinions on this are it seems like they want Kelly and if they fail to get Kelly they will go through the interview process with everyone they have lined up and line up 2nd interviews for some...it also seems like if Whaley were making the hire he'd hire Marrone, which to me if your going to trust him to be your GM you should trust him to have a big say in who the coach is...I'm a little dissapointed to hear theres no interest right now in Lovie, I think he'd be the best fit for this team so long as he hired a good OC...Nothing was said about McCoy other than the Bills may head to Colorado after Arizona, I'm guessing it would be to interview him...

As a fan I don't think Whisenhunt is that bad, I just prefer to go with someone that either has a good track record or someone that has yet to be a coach and is hungry to make a name for themselves. I liked Horton about two months ago but now not so much, they do have good talent on the defense and while he did do well with it you have to wonder if thats because of the talent. I also don't like a man in his 50's to be sporting braids or cornrows, just like I wouldn't want our coach sporting a mullet, just seems like they are looking for attention.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about Kelly, on one hand I'd be excited the Bills went after a hot name and on the other hand I'd be worried since he doesn't have any NFL exp...it should be a fun off-season though
    well done
