Default Gill Byrd for Defensive Coordinator!

Whoever ends up being our head coach needs to strongly consider Gill Byrd for defensive coordinator......besides for the obvious reason that it would help in re-signing his son Jairus, Gill deserves a shot at being a coordinator. This year alone his starting secondary was too notch, Tim Jennings had 9 Int's, Charles Tilman and Major Wright both had 4 and its not a fluke, he puts these guys in position to make plays on the ball. Gill himself was a pro-bowl CB with San Diego and I really think he could do wonders with our young CB crop of Gilmore, Williams, Brooks and McKelvin. Not to mention the fact he would be coaching his son who is prob as good as he is because of Gill both his coaching and his genetics. I know that we have the best chance of getting Gill if we hire Lovie Smith who is a great head coach and my number one coaching choice. I mean Lovie is a proven winner and whould bring an up and comming cordinator in Gill Byrd W/him.....seems like a no brainer to me

Not a bad idea at all. The Bears secondary was definitely the strength of that defense. I don't think we're going to get Kelly (#1 choice) so id bring in marrone as the next head coach. A saints like offense with a bears like defense sounds pretty **** good to me!

That was the first thing that came to mind when lovie got mentioned.

Byrds secondary definitely had an amazing year, and unless ron rivera gets fired and comes here as DC, id be stoked to have him.

Who should we get for OC though?

    Two things to mention here...

Does Jarius want to play for his father? I know many of people who would prefer to not play for their father(obviously not at that level but friends from high school/college).

Also could this be what Jarius is waiting to sign an extension for? He wants to play for his father wherever he goes.

yeah i agree.. please close open reg & ban them.

as for the O.P. why not, couldn't hurt, see if there's interest there. Hopefully it would make the other Byrd interested in re-signing with us .

I like the idea of bringing him on. If he's comfortable running the 4-3 that would be ok. I might like to see him more as a DB coach though.
