I know he doesn't... but he (or Kyle) could do it... We definitely don't need two penetrating DTs, I'd like to see one guy on the DL that just stops the run and eats space, regardless of the base scheme!

Look. I don't care what you think about Williams, Anderson, Merriman, or hell, even MOATS at OLB. The fact of the matter is that Merriman and Williams are at LEAST average OLBs. I'd rather have two average players on the field than one awful one (any of our 4-3 LBs). Additionally, Dareus is better suited for the NT position and had a great year there.
I wish you had been, because you're talking nonsenseical jargon....

As far as a 3-4 end's job? It's not to take up blockers. It's a 1 gap assignment. A 5 tech needs to be able to get after the QB and stop the run. But, read my signature. Keep Mario on the weak side as an end. He will be lined up outside of a tackle with no TE. He's free to pass rush. There are tons of things to do where there is really no change for him, other than having to line up on either side.

There is a lot of info out there on x's and o's of football. You can find playbooks, videos, books, everything. I coach, and I'm always trying to find new tweaks and trying to see if new tweaks I've thought of will work. If you get time, check we stuff out. It's crazy addictive.

I would also like to see an X's and O's forum here where we can talk about football that doesn't fall in other categories. People would learn a lot. We have some real football people on this board. Plus, I really enjoy talking it and learning new things.
When people say 3-4, this is basically what I think of us running.... direct from Bills_Chick's post

The Nose Tackle is playing your pure 0-technique and is in charge of the A-gaps, the DE's are in charge of the B and C gaps on the outside. In the passing game, their jobs are to control the line and draw double teams. The Ideal players for this scheme based on the roles in the 2011 draft:
Ryan Strongside DE - Marcell Dareus, played 3-4 DE at the University of Alabama
Ryan Nose Tackle - Stephen Paea, played 4-3 DT at Oregon State University
Ryan Weakside DE - Cameron Jordan, played 3-4 DE at the University of California
    Linebacker Responsibilities
However I will be the first to admit I don't know all that much about the 3-4. In my eyes though, when people say put Mario at 3-4 DE, this is what I envision. And I think that would be a total WASTE of his talent.

He'd run some 4-6 also so this 3-4 thing is useless discussion.

that is a really bad question!

Look at our defense in the 2011 season and their is your answer.

If we switch back to a 3-4 defense again we will be a joke! No NFL team switches from 4-3 to 3-4 to 4-3 and back to 3-4 every year.

Denver did it twice and they didn't get good until they got a good DC. It's the coach more than anything.

Yes, from your eyes that would be a waste. Just remember, things evolve. The 3-4 has evolved. This is one thing that made me so mad about Wanny, his d was so basic. Coverages confused nobody. Sometimes we would get to the QB, but there was never this What The? throws. You know what I mean.

People gets these false rules of football schematics. The biggest rule is you better know your weakness and you better know how to mask that weakness well. I'm talking schematically. You overload blitz the right side, you better have somebody in the hot lane. Things like this.
Innovation: Not letting football change your philosophy, but making your philosophy change football. ~ I said that...Really.

    omgz, forgive my thoughtlessness.

The last real post in the best thread ever. I'm honored. Thank you, AZbacker. It was a good run, Budda.

Jayryp's buddy is still a fine WR.
