    Alert

I'm glad they signed this guy. I believe in aggressive defense. That is just my opinion, I'm not saying I'm right or wrong. My way of thinking is, if a quarterback is hurried and pressured he will make more mistakes, which creates turnovers. I've even seen Brady have a poor day when he is constanly harrassed. The problem, other than the NY Giants, most teams can't get that kind of pressure on him. Even Brady gets frustrated when harrassed and will try and force some balls where he shouldn't. I think aggressive is the way to go. I don't like sittig back with a bunch of DBs in the backfield. I think if you do that a quarterback has too much time, and eventually a reciever will break free. DBs can't cover double and triple moves.

The fact that this guy managed to keep his defense in the top 10 the last couple years while the Jets turned into a circus is amazing. Revis missed almost the enitre season and things only got worse in NY except somehow they managed to hang around the playoff race for a while. Pettine has to get part of the credit for that and I like his mentality in general.

Gregg Willams was a fairly aggressive defense but this is a whole new level with better players.

Imagine guys like Byrd and Mckelvin coming off the edge out of nowhere. Letting the players make plays.

Now lets get Byrd under a VERY LONG term contract, and get everyone healthy for OTA's/TC so nobody is behind the ball... Too many injuries, it still plagued us all season, and was one of the reasons we underperformed... Mark Anderson, first 7 weeks for Mario, Kyle, etc... there were just too many guys banged up and not as effective...

I am totally looking forward to seeing what he gets out of these guys... I saw Merriman really come back there at the end, those last two weeks when he was playing more... wonder if that's a good sign? Would love to see everyone really allowed to show their talents, and have more time to get these detailed defensive packages worked out by our week 2 (predicting) matchup with those dang Patsies... Time to watch them squirm... I really enjoy watching those games, the announcers don't know what to talk about if Brady is sucking it up... they fumble over their own words and go silent when they can't love up on on his jock.

If there's any good corners in FA that'll help us out a lot. Gilmore in his second year, with a solid FA corner, and Aaron Williams (he's gonna improve IMO,) our corners will be set.

I tend to agree with this. Pettine's defense is dependent on a strong coverage secondary. Gilmore is one corner. Who is the other? Williams? McKelvin?? (I know, another first pick corner). Unless FA lands us some CB help, Milliner makes more sense at #8 than reaching for a QB that won't be starting anyway. Lock down the corners and unleash the pressure up front!

I won't cry with Millner at 8, but I think with pressure, Brooks or Williams could be alright outside. Leodis as well, tho I am doubting he gets re-signed. Williams got burnt when a QB had time. If the QB has no time, he will do better. Brooks will have to be plan B. If we go D at 8, I would rather a top pass rusher. I haven't seen the FA list for CB's. I should find that. That may be the best answer.

that's fair to say but I see them as two different DC's with Pettine having the advantage.

Agreed. Usually defensive guys from the Ravens turn out well. I heard so much talk and hype last year and was obviously disappointed, so I'm now in a wait-and-see approach. I'm cautiously optimistic, but it sucks to think like this. Only the Bills! haha
