However, I think this is way too big a generalization.

If the prime rib is brown and smells bad, I don't want it.

I'll settle for chicken or a piece of fish that look good because they won't give me food poisoning...

No question whatsoever that some prime rib is brown and smells bad. But the prime rib that smells OK? It's going to cost you $100 a pound. You want a QB next year? The guys who have absolutely terrific years are going to go #1 and #2 and we won't get them. And the guys after that, the ones who are pretty good bargains in the second round? They're going #8 or #10 or whatever.

Again, these days if you want prime rib (a QB), you HAVE TO pay the market price. And that market price isn't what it was five years ago. It's much much higher. You have to pay that $100 a pound. Wanna keep getting chicken or fish (OLs, CBs, LBs, whatever ...), great, no problem. Meantime, though, the prime rib's price is still $100 a pound.

You won't get a QB without overpaying anymore, except for the Lucks at #1, and we aren't going to be drafting that high.

Just don't see how they'd like any of these guys anymore than they did the QBs they've passed on for the last 3 years.

Nix strategy for 3 years straight has been to pick the BPA in round 1 and then address our needs in rounds 2 and 3.

We'll see what happens, I just don't but for a second that one of these QBs will be a top 8 player available. I think their value kicks in much later in round 1 (24-32 range) and is really established in the first half our round 2.

You're right, that has been his strategy. And while it has improved the roster a lot, it has left us - three years straight - without a QB. And he's said each year he wanted one, though the first year it was only for competition. He said earlier this year that he realizes that you have to pick your QB a round earlier. I only wish he'd figured it out last year, because it's been clear for a while, IMHO, that if you wait for value, your QB will be gone. And it'll be another year of Fitzarama.

    Well, that's certainly one guess.

    This ^^^^

Years where there's not a single guy are pretty few and far between.

Actually, there are a very few, though they're not common. The best example, unfortunately, is Brady. His deep ball wasn't good when he came in the league. Now he's got one. He worked and worked and worked on his technique, on the mechanics, and he improved a great deal.

But you're right, it's very rare. And Fitz already spent a year working on those mechanics.
