Both of those things will appeal to him big time.
You forgot to add inordinately low expectation when it comes to playing the position.

IMO, it's not Alex Smith's ability, it's his durability. You don't even need to look at his stats, just how's he plays about 11 games a season.

Not that I'm a Mike Martz fan in the least, but he started J.T. O'Sullivan over Smith after O'Sullivan bet him out in training camp...and stormed the 49ers to a 2-5 record.
    ADOPT A BILL:
Cordy Glenn - let him play left tackle people. Geesh!

My expectations for our new coach are simple.
    1. Have the ability to locate decent stop gap players that are better players than the last ones who were on this roster for far too long.
    2. Win as many games as you can, but when you lose ... get beat, don't follow in the steps of your predecessors who seemed to try and find new and inventive ways to loose winnable games.

This would be a great move, Alex Smith is a solid starting QB.

WOW, that's really news....all the teams that might need a QB this season are interested in him ???? These media hacks really get paid to write this stuff ??? Bills won't use a draft pick and if he is cut I don't think Buffalo would be high on his list of teams to play for......
"I personally agree with Mayock. I've said this all year. I can guarantee that there will be a run on qb's in the first. This class is better than most think. They just have the bad "luck" of following last year's crop". I think the only qb's that will be considered at 8 are Smith, Barkley, Wilson, and (maybe) Glennon. quoted by whorlnuts....1/22/13

Good riddance. These are indeed some dark days when Bills fans clamor for Alex Smith.

You all want him until he gets here. Smith takes a ton of sacks. Can't throw into the wind. Struggles in weather games. He's been benched many times during his career and acted like he could careless. The rookie QB that replaced him has the 49ers offense averaging a TD more a game now. This reminds me of when another QB named Tom Brady took over and led that team to a Super Bowl and all the Bills fans wanted ole Drew Bledsoe. Same thing with Smith. Only Bledsoe had a better arm.

Chan Gailey 12/26/2010 - Pass rush would of helped a couple of those. That guy (Tom Brady) stood back there forever and someone finally come open.

Smith takes us to the Bowl!!! Seriously. One of the best out there.
    NFC title last year.
Had them en-route again this season. With a tough sked to boot.

    Bills want him:

No, either he is a bad "stop gap" and then he would need to be replaced next season by a rookie, or he is a franchise QB and would not make you want to waste a 1st round pick on a QB next season, so far in his career, he's shown to be a garbage QB and each coach that he's had has attempted to find a replacement for him.

If Buffalo goes after this guy, its another Rob Johnson, Drew Bledsoe, Kelly Holcomb and Ryan Fitzpatrick move and at least Johnson and Bledsoe had shown more promise than Smith.

Time to stop trying to cheat the system like we do every year and draft a QB, either that or watch the "terrible" class of 2013 produce another franchise QB or two for other teams while we spin our wheels yet again.

Your "quote" says: with another tweet SPECULATING that Whisenhunt could eventually work with potential free agent (if he's released) quarterback Alex Smith in Buffalo

Also the article you reference is written by a Bills fan, not a member of the media.
