Re-signing T-Jax and Keeping Fitzpatrick just means that Buddy Nix is trying to make a point. Haha!
''You appease (fans) for about three months,'' Nix said. ~ 11/2/2012

Chan Gailey 12/26/2010 - Pass rush would of helped a couple of those. That guy (Tom Brady) stood back there forever and someone finally come open.

Daryl - I think you misperceive what went on.

I think Gailey wanted no part of Jackson. I remember when the Bills signed him - he sounded kind of bewildered about the fact that he had to carry 3 QBs, especially since he had already decided to carry two kickers. And I think the fact that TJax never sniffed the field is further evidence. I think Gailey's treatment of TJax was the same as Ryan's treatment of Tebow - "I have this guy I didn't want and I have to keep him on the roster, but it doesn't mean I have to play him."

In fact, I think one of the reasons Gailey got fired was that he didn't do anything with Jackson.

It's pretty clear Buddy likes TJax. It's been clear for months that he traded to lock him up for 2012 and then to re-sign for 2013.

Gailey was not going to give the guy a chance to play - there was no competition.

There was nothing wrong with JP. His failures stemmed from playing behind a horrid Oline, changing coordinators 4 times in 4 years and being benched for Holcomb every time he had the slightest hiccup.

TJax now has a chance to play in a better situation, a luxury JP was never afforded.

    Don't even what?

Another chance to prove himself? He has had plenty. Do you realize he is going to be 30 before TC starts?

The man got a nice contract. Sorry, I know it is a bummer but that is the nature of a 3rd strong QB in the NFL, not many get their shot esp if the starter doesn't get hurt.

People and these pipe dreams about a journeyman QB is going to be resurrected in a new regime/system.

We are all conjecturing on Gailey's intentions, I have stated several times my opinion. No you are suggesting one of the reasons he was fired was he did nothing with him, well to me that is a real stretch. We will simply disagree.

WE can debate and conjecture and hypothesis all we want, the salient point of the matter is is TJax the answer, even a weak one at QB. I say no, I say he will be little improvement if any over Fotzpatrick We will all find out in about 6 months.

Good re-signing; I thought he was long gone after being ignored by Gailey. Happy to hear he's sticking around.

Yeah, what I say about Gailey is all conjecture. I agree. But I think I'm right. I'm sure that Young and TJax both were signed because Buddy thought they were potential starters; there's absolutely no reason to bring in TJax when they did simply to be a backup. That made no sense. So that tells me Buddy believed TJax could be an alternative to Fitz, and Gailey never gave the guy a shot - I think because Gailey didn't want him in the first place.

I absolutely agree with you that TJax is unlikely to be the long-term answer. I think Buddy has screwed bringing in retreads to be the starter instead of going after QBs in the draft. But be that as it may, we are where we are. I certainly didn't think that TJax would be better than FItz in Gailey's scheme, but if Marrone actually is going to use some read-option offense, TJax probably would be better running it than Fitz. And he might surprise you and me and be better at it than we think.

So I'm happy the Bills signed him - I predicted they would. But I don't think he's the answer. And I certainly wouldn't change my draft now that he's on board. If there's a QB worth having at 8 or in the second round, or if there's a QB worth trading up for, I wouldn't waste a second making the move.

Fitz may still the best option come September. Marrone will decide.

I will be fine watching him next year, if he's the best QB on the team.

The most salient point of Gailey's coaching performance was his delusional understanding of the value of his QBs and RBs.

It's not a bad move on Marrone's part. Even if we draft a QB in round 1, he's still an unknown. They still need to get an upgrade at QB through the draft or trade, but this is the smart decison.

there goes the "he's the only Qb on the roster" debate.

this really is a good sign that fitz is, well, HOPEFULLY GONE!!

Good to see you staying, and even better watching Fitz get the boot.

    Happy days all around!

That would be as bad a decision as Donohoe/Williams coming in, say they studied film, and decided Johnson was better than Flutie.

We can only hope that the signing today greases Fitzpatrick's way out.
